VOD rentals

I would like to see longer rental periods on the VOD and at least the option to watch my rental in HD. We are paying the same amount for AT&T rentals as you do at the video store, but you only get to keep you rental for 24 hours. This may work for some, but when you have kids you find out that you may need more time to watch a movie than you planned.

There are many 3 and 4 day rentals on the VoD also...

Im still waiting for a answer as to why some 3 day rentals are $5 when they have been out for awhile

Probably because they are for multiple days...it doesn't make sense for them to drop the price, even if they've been out for a while, if they are longer rentals than the rest of the movies.

Thats the exact opposite of every video store in the country. The most expensive dvd's are those just released and one day rental. The longer they have been out the more the price drops and the longer you can keep it. Why its different for Vod I have no idea.

I just came from comcast and the on demand movies/ppv were $5 as well and only good for 24 hours. When I had DISH it was the same thing but I could DVR the movie which let me keep till I wanted to delete it.

I noticed on iTunes with their new rental service that you have 30 days to watch the movie. Once you start it, you only have 24 hours though. Looks like they are doing 99 cent rental of the week every Thurs. I tried one, but haven't watched it yet.

You would think that AT&T would be trying to do nothing more than get as many people as possible to click "buy" on their VOD titles. That's the only way they get money from them, right? So one thought is that they want to try and get you to buy one twice in the case that you couldn't finish it in 24 hours. I suspect that doesn't happen very often, however. What's better is if they said "keep them as long as you have space on your DVR" and then people in the mood might buy 10 at once. They may still never watch them, but who buys more than one at a time under the current scenario?

I'm an engineer and over analyze everything (so I'm told), but the market speaks. If nobody buys VOD titles under the current plan, I bet it changes. (I suspect people are buying them, however, as it meets their needs.) Oh, yes, AT&T will also tell you that they cannot allow you to keep the movies on your DVR indefinetly for DRM reasons. Uh huh... Well, if that's true, then we can also let the studios how much we like that idea by not buying their DRMed products, either.

I don't do VoD because of my irratic schedule...and for the price I'm not saving anything, I could burn gas to drive to BB/Hollywood and rent, and watch within 5-7 days. OR, what I usually do, just order from the public library for free, 7 day loan.

IF they were $1 and could be kept for 30 days, but watched only once (as in you can pause and come back to where to left off until complete), then I might be more interested.

The $1 automated rental machines in some stores seem to be VERY popular.

I get full-color (expensive to print) cards from ATT in the mail telling me how great VoD is. Maybe that is a hint that people aren't buying, and something needs to change?

When we had DirecTV, we would often record a PPV movie in the afternoon if we knew we would watch it that evening. It made any interruptions easier to handle. I'm not a big fan of the pay VOD, so we haven't ordered one yet.

I only did them with Cable when they sent a coupon for a freebie.

There's not anything on VoD that I can't wait a month or two for on regular Premiums...

When we had Direct Tv we watched alot of PPV. If we saw something we liked we would buy and record and hold on to it for times when there was nonthing on TV or company came in from out of town.

We have not used VOD with U-verse at all. I find it very difficult to sort through all the diffrent VOD menus and pick out something and what it costs etc. Wish there was a better interface for VOD.

Same here. We're already paying for our Blockbuster service, so I just take advantage of that. You can get way more movies for $16.99 between what comes in the mail and what we get in the store than by using VoD. I think I saw new releases are like $4. Way too expensive IMO. The convenience of not having to go out doesn't outweight the advantage of practically unlimited movies for $16.99.

Agreed. And when you go out for a movie, you can pick up a snack from Taco Bell or someplace on your way home.

I love my Netflix and I think in all the years we have had cable and VoD access, we have actually bought and paid for one movie only. Okay, I admit it, I am cheap!

But, we record a lot now and make sure the freezer and fridge are well stocked too.
