I'd had the same issues. And I feel your pain when it comes to tech support. They finally had me shut down my Vista firewall and it seemed to be a little better, but still dropped out a lot. Tech said he'd call back in 10 mins or so. That was last Friday, still no word from him. I finally decided to hardwire my RG and pc together, but now I can't get my Xbox 360 or laptop to connect.
The RG is in my garage and everything else is inside, obviously. I'm guessing my next step is to have them come back out and move the RG indoors. I'm at a loss here.

I initially had a similar issue but found that it was because the wireless channel was on 'Auto' and the router was hopping channels to find the one with least interference. Using my wireless client I just looked at the wireless networks / channels in use around me and picked a channel on the router that was the least used - in my case Ch. 1. Other than that I've been very happy with the stability of my wireless connection on this 2Wire RG and my previous 2Wire DSL router. I can usually leave my laptop and VPN connection up for several days without getting dropped.
I know you said you tried different wireless channels with support though, so that may not be your issue. You might want to try channels 1, 6 and 11 each for awhile and see if any of them are more stable for you... 2.4ghz Cordless phone is possibility too as you mentioned, but probably only if it is right next to the RG or your computer w/ wireless card. I would also make sure your power level is set to 10 (the highest) on the RG. The only other thing I've found is some wireless cards/clients don't seem to do well if you have SSID broadcast disabled...
