I had to pick the option for Obtain IP Address Automatically (then all fields will clear from previous selections) and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically (other field will clear). Then the Alternate Config. tab, I would select Auto Private IP Address. I don't use the pseudo-static anymore, and it makes things easier. But you might have an A/V program that is grabbing it as well; my program allows me to change profiles, which I do when I'm away from home.Maybe someone else has a quicker method?

hello,I'm new and I came here for the same reasons as some of you. I'm having the same problem as described in this thread, I contacted att but they were useless, they kept redirecting me to a different department--in a loop!-- in attempt to solve my issue but no one had a good notion of my problem much less on how to solve it.
anyway, I ran the commands posted by randyl in command promt. I tried to release my IP adress and got the following:
[windows IP configuration
No opperation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconected]
What exactly is this refering to? I'm afraid to run more commands blindly as I don't have much experience on this and I don't want to screw anything up.

What that means is you're not even connected at layer 1/2. In other words, you're not connecting to the wireless router or access point; that has to happen before you can get an IP address.
What operating system are you using, and what happens when you try to connect?

Can you connect to wireless AT HOME?
Is it only Wi-Fi AWAY FROM HOME that won't connect?
