In New London, Ct, All NY Knicks basketball games( home & away) are blacked out on msg network. NY Ranger games
are also blacked out on msg.
Also, All New Jersey basketball games ( home & away) are blacked out on YES network. Why? The only reason to watch Msg is to see the Knicks and Rangers. Why are these telecasts blackedd out?

Because everyone except the viewer, gets to decide what (when and where) the viewer gets to watch. ![]()
Sports event black-outs are dinosaur rules from the days of limited broadcast channels, but now the sports franchises cling to that old rule so the can extort stadium seat pricing out of their fans. In this day and age, there's enough bandwidth for every sports team to have their own channel. Professional sports is hardly about the fans any more. It's all about squeezing as much money as possible out of a market area and making the owners richer.

Put your zip code in here and it will let you know which teams you are allowed to watch. If the Knicks and Rangers are part of your viewing area then you will need to contact technical support and find out why you aren't recieving them. If they are not part of your viewing area, complain to the NBA and NHL as they control who gets to watch what teams.

Call TS as you are supposed to get them in New London.
The Zip Code 06320 is the home team territory for the following pro teams:
With the U100 Package and above:
Comcast SportsNet New England (Ch.714-SD / Ch.1714-HD)
- NBA: Boston Celtics
MSG (Ch.708-SD)
- NHL: Rangers
NESN (Ch.712-SD / Ch.1712-HD)
- MLB: Red Sox
- NHL: Bruins
SportsNet New York (Ch.704-SD)
- MLB: Mets
YES (Ch.702-SD / Ch.1702-HD)
- MLB: Yankees
Good luck ![]()
Edit: Quick thing you could do is unplug/plug in for 30 seconds reboot the RG (will lose all access for about 4 mins), sometimes that gives channels to the user.

This might explain why "local" blackout rules exist, but I think the out-of-market basketball and ice hockey blackout rules exist mainly to get people to get NBA League Pass and NHL Center Ice. (I am assuming that New London is in the Boston Celtics/Bruins territory.)

Well the Rangers anyways, Knicks won't be able to get, just the Celtics.

Correct OU, from MSG FAQ:
What are the blackout restrictions for Knicks, Liberty, and Rangers games?
Various regional TV policies have been established by the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball. The blackouts are intended to protect other team territories as well as the exclusivity of national television outlets.
NEW YORK KNICKS / NEW YORK LIBERTY
New York
- Total blackout in southwestern New York, within 150 miles of Cleveland.
New Jersey
- Total blackout south of Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Connecticut
- Total blackout in New London and Windham Counties.
Due to Celtics coverage in New London. ![]()
Edit: All this could easily been discovered by the OP by searching before even posting here.

To Chris,
I don't know if you are an At&T employee or not. It is difficult to know who to contact regarding content, especially going through their automated answering services. If what you say is true, then I will make my case to the the Connecticut Department of Public Utilities I'm a Knicks fan and I pay for MSG network. If I can't see the Knicks. then maybe I should be compensated. I don't think anyone was informed of these restrictions when they agreed to use AT&T Uverse

Unluckily, CT PUC most likely can't help as it's the Knicks/NBA causing you not to see the Knicks, not Uverse. They are just following the legally defined team TV boundaries. ![]()

Chris is not an AT&T employee, he is a user just like you and me. In regards to complaining to CPUC, if you want to complain, complain to the NBA, NHL, MLB as they determine veiw areas and blackout rules, it applies to all providers, not just AT&T so even if you move to a different provider you still would be unable to view the Knicks on MSG if you are not in their viewing area.
NBA League Pass
NHL Center Ice
MLB Extra Innings are a money making avenue for the leagues to view out of area games.
