caller's phone number shows on my U-Verse television but not on my caller ID displays [ Edited ]

I have had U-Verse phone,TV, and Internet installed for the past 3 weeks and the caller ID feature has, for the most part, been working well.

I just received a junk phone call which rang our phones (4 rings) until AT&T voice mail picked up.  The caller left no message.

What is odd is that the caller's fake name and number registered with the caller ID display and log features on the web and on our U-Verse DVR, but none of my caller ID equipped telephones or caller ID boxes showed that the call ever took place.

The caller ID phones and displays worked OK on the calls I received both before and after this call.

The caller ID on the web and TV logs show a number of {personal content removed for safety} and a name of "IND SUR GROIUP" [sic].    Had a similar call a few days ago from "IND SUR GROUP" with a different area code, but with the same last 7 digits.   I had blocked that earlier number using the U-Verse blocking feature.

Anyone else experience a similar situation where the phone rang, the TV and web logs show the call details, but the caller ID displays on the phones did not register the call?

I forgot to mention that all my telephones are hard wired and are AT&T brand.  Most of them are a current model, namely AT&T CL 2909.

I've had that happen once or twice.  I have no idea WHY it happens but it does happen.

If I get calls from some unknown number, I go to Who Calls Me   to see if someone has figured out who the caller is and what their business is.

It happened once again today.   My brother called me from his Verizon cell phone and his number showed on my TV, but none of my phone caller ID displays.

I will continue to be on the lookout for this problem.   I have been using various means to block telemarketers and these countermeasures rely on caller ID.

Well lets think of it logically.

Phone call comes into att, forwards to RG, then goes from the RG to the TV and the phone. The TV displays perfectly fine, but the phone doesn't.

What does the phone have but the TV doesn't?
-Is your phone connected directly to the modem or through a wall jack?
-Are there any logical settings prohibiting caller ID on your phone?

You can go inside the GUI of your modem by typing in 192.168.1.254 to your computer web browser and check the Failed incoming/outgoing calls. If there are 0 failed, then I'd imagine it's a logical issue with the phone or a physical issue with the wiring.

There is really one way to test this to determine if it's a phone issue in your house.  If you have, or can maybe barrow, one of the stand alone caller ID boxes and connect it to one of your jacks in the house that has Uvoice service.  The next call you get that shows on the TV but not on the phone handsets, take a look at the stand alone box and see if it recorded the CID.  If so your phones are the issue, if not it's something with Uvoice.

Good thinking BeeBeeSA, I would add one more restrictive step to your scenario. In the back of the RG, plug the Caller ID into 'phone lines 1+2' just to eliminate any home wiring issues.

Thanks for the suggestion, BeeBeeSA.   When this problem occurs, neither my standalone caller ID boxes nor CID telephones register the call.   One of the CID boxes is at the Residential Gateway.

Thanks for testing this out Parnass! You saved me a trip to buy a CID device. I was on a chat with Support and they suggested that not all phones are compatible, but did not have a listing of which phones were. Not too sure which way to go now. Desperately need to screen out these unwanted calls.

That's an easy one bassitl, just go to att.com, enter in your mbr ID+password, then click on phone, phone features, Call log. See which number you want to block, then tab over to phone features, turn call blocking on and add that TN that you looked up in the call log.
