So last night we missed the beginning of the program we wanted to watch. Our DVR is set to record the series just in case. So I went to the recorded TV menu and started the program (about 15 minutes into the program). It played, but we were unable to to anything other than play and stop it. No fast forward, no rewind, no pause. Is this normal? Seems that if you can pause and rewind live TV that the same should be available for recorded programs as they are recording. Comments?

I have always been able to fast forward, rewind and pause a recorded program while it is still recording.

Good to know! I'll try it again and see if it was an isolated incident. Thanks!

Were you doing this from the DVR or another STB? You shouldn't have any issues from the DVR, but if from another STB you'd only be able to pause, rewind, etc. if you started watching the actual recording.

The OP was watching a recording while it was still in progress. The actions can be done while watching a recorded program, whether it is completed or in progress, are the same whether you are watching in on the TV connected to the DVR or a TV connected to an STB.

I have ran into the original posters situation, once or twice. What you need to do, is to reboot (restart) the DVR. The fast / soft reboot way should work. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds until the screen goes black and three dots appear. You can also do the soft reboot via the remote, under Menu > System Options > Tools > Restart, IIRC. After the reboot you should have all functionality back.

That may work for a completed recording, but since the OP mentioned that the recording was still in progress, rebooting the DVR while a recording is in progress might not be a good option.

If the OP was watching the dvr then it could have been some kind of software glitch IMO. I would recommend to the OP to go in to the recorded programs menu and watch the program from there as it records. You should be able to pause, ff, and rew whether you are watching the dvr stb or one of the non dvr stbs.

I do suspect it was a software glitch. We were watching on the DVR TV as we don't have any other TV connected. We were watching it as you described (from the Recorded TV menu) and yet it would not work. We tried at least 3 times in a row. I'll do a soft reboot now and try it again soon. If it continues not to work, how should I proceed? Contact support?
Thanks for all the comments! I'm glad I ran across this site, although it was hard to find from the att site.

If it happens again call ts at the number listed in my signature. It could be, but hopefully isn't, the early early stages of your dvr beginning to fail. But I doubt it.

I see. I misread. Reading comprehension is apparently an issue for me as well... ![]()

Right. But I have noticed many instances where these things crop up during a recording (while it still is being recorded). If that is messed up, what else might go wrong? Hmmm. Oh yeah, the one hour recording may magically stop recording 42 minutes in. If the DVR is acting flaky, i will reboot it and try to do so, during a commercial, if at all possible.

There won't be enough time in the commercial break. You will miss part of the program. There was once a long time ago when my dvr rebooted itself during a recording. And I didn't miss any of the program I was recording. I don't expect it to happen again though.
