i have to reboot or have the rg reaquire ip ???

almost like a dns problem all of a sudden

been rock steady since july for internet side and last 1 to 2 weeks    been the  poopie

Yeah that's what the whole issue is, if you look at your RG wireless trouble shooting when it happens, it says "cant communicate with the DNS Server." Usually my internet comes back up after a few minutes if I just leave it alone.

Hey I'm having a similar problem like yours.  I started a thread labeled "Constant internet drops" which explains my situation.  I live in Tomball, very near Spring Tx.  I have a tech coming out Saturday to look at my problem, but I have little hopes that he will find something wrong since I believe the problem is more on their end.  Let me know if you have any updates to your situation and I'll do the same for mine.

so I called, had to go back through Tier I to get to Tier II. The Tier II tech didn't seem real interested in doing much investigating into the issue. Kept emphasizing that he wanted to send a tech to my house, which is pointless with it being a area wide problem. He's supposed to be trying to find out what the people that I heard from on Sunday that were investigating this had figured out or what they were working on. I have the new Tier II code so I will call back by end of business if I haven't heard anything.

There was also a recording about the Cleveland area getting an update, seems like maybe they were having issues with some of them getting it.

I'm in the San Antonio area and I've had this problem since I signed up on 2-4-2008.  I set Outlook to check for email every minute to keep email working but IE 7 would stop working after a period of inactivity.  I always had to reboot my PC and then IE 7 would work until I went off to do something else and when I came back I couldn't connect to web pages.  It seemed to be a name resolution issue as I could ping by IP address but couldn't by name.  I guess AT&T has listened to compliants as today I'm not having the problem and I've been on and off my PC all morning.

If you suspect it to be a DNS issue, configure your computer with another DNS server. www.opendns.com is a free DNS service with instructions on how to configure your DNS settings to point to their DNS servers.

That is a good point, I'll maybe give this a shot tonight, be interesting to see if that stops the tv freezing and internet loss.

I'd hope the Internet doesn't drop connections.  I don't mind 1 reset/day at the most.
On DSL, I may get a reset (connected to VPN) once / week or two (+500 hours).

I spoke too soon.  Evidently I was too active the day I sent the message.  Yesterday, February 14th I was back to the typical where I would have to reboot to use IE 7.  Since I have Outlook checking every minute I don't have a problem with email but IE 7 displays a message it is looking for a page and after 15 or 20 seconds I get the message the page can't be displayed.  Looks like AT&T needs to do some more work.  I have the U-400 package and like what I have.  I do see a few image drop outs at times but not as bad as Time Warner.  I have Internet Express and I'm happy with the speed, etc. as I don't download music, lots of images, etc. but I wish AT&T could get the router firmware (I assume) fixed so DNS names will continue to resolve even after long periods of inactivity.

This is not normal operation for Uverse, and I have not seen others having the same issues as you. I would advise calling tech support for your particular issue.

I set up the OpenDNS servers for my PC and I'll see what happens.  The AT&T router is looking at 68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1 and those are DNS servers for sbcglobal.net.  I'm guessing the router quits resolving for internal reasons as I assume one or the other of the sbcglobal.net servers would pick up requests so I don't know if OpenDNS is a solution but I'm trying it.

I set up OpenDNS' servers on my PC yesterday afternoon after 5:00 PM and this morning (About 10:20 AM now) I came in to check and I still can open web pages.  I have my PC connected to the Ethernet port so maybe not relying on the router and its DNS servers is a solution to the problem I was having.  In the past I hadn't lost Internet connectivity but the ability to resolve names.  When I couldn't ping sites based on their name, I used NSLOOKUP to find their IP address and was able to ping with the address so I knew I still had a connection plus my Outlook continued to send and receive email.  I see where lots of people lose their wireless and I wonder if they still have a connection but just can't resolve names.  I have a PS3 that is wireless and connected to the AT&T router.  I don't use it on the Internet but maybe I need to experiment with it as I assume it will lose the ability to resolve names as it relies on the router.

I've had the same problem, too, for weeks. It is not due to inactivity as my machine is always on and my email checks four different email accounts ever minute. I've also had it happen while browsing around here (or other web sites) and such. It even causes the RG to become unreachable at times.

At first I thought it was a DNS issue because I kept seeing "looking up www.xyz.com" messages, but why does the RG get "lost?" Even if I try the IP of the RG it's gone for a while. I suspect the RG is hung in some way and that's the issue.

I just can't figure it out and the AT&T support has no clue (and sending a tech out is worthless as this is completely unpredictable so far as I can tell and even if I had him sit here to watch with me, if he saw it once or twice all he'd to is say "wow, that's odd" and call some one who would probably call him crazy, too, and not have a clue. I'm going to clear my RG logs and see if I can catch it that way).

The problem does not show up in any logs I can see. I reset mine last night and have, twice, had serious connectivity issues, web pages that could not be found, etc. and nothing showed up. I did see that my DSL link went down at 6 a.m. this morning (but came rigth back) so I know something is being logged, but not this problem. I was hoping to see something like DNS server not found or something...

Update! I do see an issue at about the time I last remeber a problem (it was not in the logs earler, but is, now...)

bingo! Exactly like the type of message I would expect. So... it's that AT&T's servers are not available from time to time, I suspect. Why? Now I'll start beating on them abou this, specifically.

I have Windows XP on a PC connected via Ethernet.  A few days back I had a suggestion to set up the DNS servers in XP rather than letting the router assign DNS servers.  I first used OpenDNS and set the IP addresses for the two DNS servers in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings for my NIC.  That has worked fine for the last 4 or 5 days so today I changed the DNS servers to the IP addresses of the sbcglobal.net DNS servers thinking those should work as well.  I'm guessing the problem is in the router as it seems to quit resolving DNS names.  Once I lost connection I found I could still ping if I had the IP address but I couldn't ping with the DNS name.  So, the bottom line is I've been fine since about February 12th.

This is February 19th and I haven't lost the Internet since I manually set up DNS servers.  I'm using the same DNS servers the router is set up with except I manually assigned the IP addresses in Windows XP.  I don't have lots of devices connected like some users so I could easily fix my problem.  I have my PC connected to an Ethernet port and a PS3 connected via wireless but I don't use the PS3 on the Internet.  AT&T needs to see why their router loses its ability to resolve DNS names.

Have you tried going back to the ATT DNS serverse since the problem has been fixed. If this was any kind of widespread issue, then I'm sure ATT would be investigating it, but you are the only one reporting that.

I'm using the AT&T DNS servers the router uses to resolve names.  If I set the DNS servers up in Windows XP then I don't have the resolution problem.  If I let DHCP give me DNS server from the router then I can't resolve DNS names although I do maintain Internet connection.  This is February 26th and manually setting up the IP addresses of the AT&T DNS servers in Windows XP solved my problem.

I'll try this, too. Seems it's not DNS going down but that the RG stops reporting it for some reason. Hmmm...

And, of course, this is why the folks using OpenDNS have had success, too.
