I had to stop my subscription to NFL red zone because the sound broke up so badly. This past weekend I could not watch the golf channel in HD for the same reason. This has happened several times, especially on sporting events. Anyone have a solution? AT&T does not!

I have the same problem. I would be interested in a solution if anyone has one.

Did you try to set your receiver for Stereo instead of Surround Sound? With my old STB, I had the same issue with sound breaking up. Some channels were worse than others. The new wireless box fixes the sound issues and I can run full DD5.1, but the box has it's own set of issues...

I'm assuming you have your audio running through an A/V receiver? If that's the case, the issue is caused by the ouput audio signal. When your audio output is set to "surround sound" some channels output 5.1 Dolby Digital and some output 2.1 DD. The 5.1 channels have no audio dropout problems, but the 2.1 channels experience dropouts when the audio has a loud spike, like the crack of a baseball bat or a particularly high and loud voice. Some people claim that upgrading to a newer set-top box fixes the issue, but that will cost money. There is no software solution other than switching to "Stereo", which is completely unacceptable to someone with surround sound speakers and expensive audio equipment. AT&T claims to be trying to fix the issue with new software, but this issue has been ongoing for years, so I don't know if it will ever happen. This problem has caused me much frustration and I wish AT&T would fix it.

Did setting it to Stereo fix the sound problem? If that's the issue, and that box is hooked up by ethernet instead of coax, maybe the wireless receiver would fix it. I would keep it hooked up to ethernet though. I have weird connection issues with my wireless box that might be OK if I could run an ethernet cable to that room.
