I believe he is referring to a feature on his phone. I have that feature on my Pansonic phone and it works with U-verse voice.
Sounds like the issue is with your phone, if you can still see the caller ID displayed on the phone. Check your phone's configuration. Talking caller ID is a feature that you can turn on or off on the phone.

No. What kind of phone do you have? You should be able to look in the owner's manual to see how to set up the various features.

I have an Ameritech business phone that has talking caller id. I had to go into the menu settings and scroll to it. Then I set it to "On". If you have the manual for your phone you should be able to find the directions there. If you don't have the manual go to your phones manufacturer's website and see if you can download a manual for your phone. Or see an online manual there.

I had talking caller id on my phone before uverse was installed and it worked fine but since uverse was installed it doesn't seem to work. I don't think it has anything to do with the phones, since my caller ID works but not the talking caller ID. Any suggestions to get this feature to work with uverse?

My talking caller id worked until the phone died of old age.
. I don't think I will look for another one. The OSCID is ok, but I do miss not having to run to the phone to see who was calling. I could just stop and listen. Maybe I will look for another one after all.

As Texasguy said above, does the visual display of the caller ID still work on the phone? If so, that would indicate that the U-verse service is delivering the information to the phone. I agree with the previous comment that you should confirm that the feature is still turned on within the phone. If you don't know how to do that, describe the compete make & model of the phone so someone else knowledgeable can look it up.
Another thing to try would be to take the phone to a friend's house and see if the caller ID works there. If it does, they that would confirm your hyphothesis that the U-verse service is at fault.

I have the same issue.
Folks...it is not the phone. Att offered Talking Caller ID that would state who was trying to call in. Please don't confuse that with the new talking phones.
Now...I got U-verse. I realized I had lost my Talking Caller ID and since I use a headset and wander around the house while on the phone the lack of Talking Caller ID was really not good.
After going through 7 ATT people on the 2020 line the computer finally hung up on me. After I cooled down I called back and got a nice person named Holly. She understood what I was asking for and cancelled my U-verse phone and put me back to my original ATT phone.
The repair man came out to do the final hook up and nothing works. The Caller ID shows up on the display but there is not Talking involved. He says he has tried everything. We disconnected all of the 'new' phones and hooked up an old phone. One without any whistles and bells. IT WORKED! The Talking Caller ID worked just fine. The repair man is at wits end. We have no answer. He is in trouble for spending too much time over here.
Anyone have any hints? This is bullcrap. ATT is not impressing me one bit. Anyone have any answers?
