Today I learned that ATT is blocking all traffic on port 25 and have been doing so since Feb 20th. I recieved no letter and no notice of any kind. I spent days trouble shooting my network thinking the problem was on my side.
I have been paying extra, for static IP's for years (I had ATT DSL before I switched to uverse). What i recieved today after spending 2.5 hours on the phone with tech support is that I have to pay an extra $49.95 to have the "pay per event tech" support team open the port to fix a problem that they created. There is nothing wrong with my network and I dont see why I should be charged to correct an issue on the ATT side of the gateway. From a business perspective I dont get why ATT would give up a 30 year customer who is paying $279 a month for to stick me for another $49.
So FYI if you have outgoing Email issues the problem is on ATT's side. And good by Uverse I off to charter cable to get a 100 meg connection for less money.

Hello,
I sincerely apologize that you are having this issue. This is not something that a one time charge would fix. If you are paying for static IP's port 25 should be available to be opened by the Tier 2 team. Unfortunately we cannot do this online, It will require you to call back in and request to speak with Tier 2. They will be able to open port 25 and there will be no charge. Again I apologize for your frustration, if you have any issues please send me a personal message with your account information and I will try and get this escalated.
Thank you,
JustinF

Unfortunately, based on my recent odyssey on 3-28-12, the Tier 2 people can no longer handle this. According to their manual, as told to me, this is now handled by Connect Tech. They can verify the status of Port 25 Blocking, but any changes or requests now must go through Connect Tech. I also just posted my story in the General Posts called "Connect Tech comes of age".
ATT has gotten so big that they can't even see how we view this as pure extortion.

I am totally surprised that such a company as ATT UVerse would allow Email to cause as much problems as it has. In the last few months I've experienced the dreaded "server can't log you on...." message. I"ve called and talked with almost every Tech on ATT's number and continue to receive the normal routine "Its not ATT's problem but Outlook". I've been using Outlook and ATT email for years and have not had as much problems as I've had in the last two months.
This is my first and final message to both the community and ATT/UVerse. I will be changing my services as I"ve received no help whatsoever from ATT support. This is terrible and inexcusable for the money I pay for both Cable/Email.
Good luck to the other members using ATT/UVerse services.

I'm trying to resolve this problem as well. I just setup residential uverse service and today found out that its impossible to send mail out using a mail client. I did this for years on dsl. I have years of email in outlook and I don't want to use the webmail. Cable providers allow smtp but only using their servers which is reasonable. Technical service says i have to pay a fee to open the ports but i can't understand why this is necessary.
Interestingly enough, the ATT router firewall lets me add SMTP port 25 to the NAT/Gaming hosting list...
Nope.

I understand the blocking of port 25 to prevent few things by default, however, I was just told that the residential uVerse account is NOT eligible to have the port 25 open ?!?!?! What The Heck???
Is there any way to have the normal residential non static ip uverse account to have the port 25 open??

I have spent time this morning with ATT re this "SMTP Port 25 is blocked" issue, and I have to get work done. The technician first tried to sell me at $13.00 per month (pay in advance) service, but I don't need that. I had to accept the $49.00 charge as I have to work. I feel that this is gouging customers, since ATT knows it has this problem. I asked for a Tier 2 technician at ATT Connect Tech, but was still charged this $49. I am really upset with ATT, and will look to switch providers once my UVERSE contract expires in February.
