We signed up for highspeed DSL last year (2011) around september/early october. I saw an ad that said 3.0mbps for $14.95 or 6.0mbps for $19.95 NO PHONE REQUIRED!
How exciting! So of course we jumped on the 6.0mbps for 19.95 deal!
We were charged a total of 19.95 per month for the first three months. (they had actually charged us several months at once, but it equaled out to be 19.95 a month) So we were very happy for this short period of time. In January 2012 they started charging us almost double! Of course we called to see what was going on and they told us we were being charged more because you have to have wireless service to get the promotion! HMMM NO the ad said you don't have to have a phone! (Here's the thing tho, I DO HAVE WIRELESS SERVICE! Have since 2002- originally CINGULAR customer and FORCED INTO ATT NIGHTMARE- but the wireless is in my name and the internet is in my husband's name.) The woman we spoke to fixed it, for that time being anyway. Then we had to call again when the bill was not correct and they told us that we would have to switch the internet service into my name to bundle my wireless with the DSL to get 6.0 for $19.95. WELL THE MAN OPENED ANOTHER ACCOUNT IN MY HUSBAND'S NAME FOR 3.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So now we have TWO DSL accounts in my HUSBANDS NAME and they are still trying to overcharge us. UGH I AM SO SICK OF AT&T!!!
BY THE WAY....THE ONLY TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN 6.0 SPEEDS IS WHEN I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH THEM TROUBLESHOOTING SLOW SPEEDS.
I am currently waiting for a "call back" from a mangaer or supervisor (whatever) because she was "already busy". WHICH I AM SURE THEY WILL NEVER CALL!
Why is it SO HARD for them to just give you the price that they advertise? Why would they open ANOTHER account in the SAME NAME? What is wrong with these people?
I am going to be canceling my ATT WIRELESS whenever my contract is up!

Their ads plainly state speeds *up to* and not *guaranteed* .
Uverse Internet may be another option in your area. They're working on phasing out regular DSL in most markets.
