Want DSL at my house

I am trying to figure out why AT&T is making it such a huge issue with the dsl. It is about a mile down both ways on my street so I do not see what the big problem would be to bring it here. There are 2 people on this property alone that would have it. I am sure the people next door and across the street would, and we have 2 new people building houses next to us.

Anyone know who I can harrass, talk to or pester to make this happen?
