Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

This is the largest flaw with this phone and its a pretty big one.  I don't care who is to blame but not being able to have java apps access the internet without clicking allow every single time makes me feel like the phone is running Vista.  Please pass this on to whoever can put some influence into the software versions on this phone and get this moved into whatever patch needs to happen.  I shouldn't have to download 3rd party tools to manipulate the files on the phone to remove such a rediculiously short-sighted problem.  The option to ask only once has been purposely removed from the firmware for some wierd reason.  Put the option back in the network permissions for the java apps and lets be done with it.

use cingular apps and you wont have this problem....it's only an issue with 3rd party apps like opera mini and google maps

And as soon as cingular offers an email client that can access gmail and a map client that can give you traffic, locations and directions this won't be an issue, but they haven't (and won't) so this is an issue.  If Cingular ever did offer those things they would also not be free or anything close to the quality of the google apps.

then simply delete you j2me java permissions file and google maps and opera mini won't ask for acess any longer but your cingular apps will no longer work!

I wholeheartedly agree!  This is the most frustrating thing about this phone.

Troyboy,

Can you point me to a site that provides detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do this? Thanks!
Also, which cingular apps do we lose access to?

I still agree with the original poster, however, in that we shouldn't have to do this.

Re: Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

Does deleting this file break the built in browser as well as the buttons to bring up the browser and cingular video?  Why should a customer have to potential void the warranty on their phone to make the phone function correctly?  Why do some users that have this phone make exceptions for Cingular instead of pushing them harder to fix this?  Talk about being complacent!

Re: Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

hopefully the next firmware update will correct this matter.  in the meantime you can perform the workaround, but read up first to become aware of the tradeoffs.  the only thing that it breaks are Cingular java apps.  you can still d/load and use Gmail, Google Maps, Opera Mini, AND any other non-Cingular java app.  it does not affect the built-in Opera browser in any way, nor does it affect Cingular Video.

if you read up on how to rid yourself of the java nag (via P2KCommander) you will see that it is a piece of cake to backup the file prior to deleting it, and conversely it is a piece of cake to replace it if you ever feel the need to do so (or want a Cingular java app).

Re: Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

what he said...lol

it's a simple file deletion and thats it.  If you give it some time the secret to the j2me file will be found so we won't have to trade access to one app for another.

please backup the file 1st and don't worry about your warranty you can simply add the file back anytime you want.

Re: Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

Thanks again troyboy and kyle.

I just want to repeat my agreement with malletto.  I really hope this wasn't intentional by cingular.  A lot of users of this phone won't have the inclination, time, or tech savy to figure out how to "hack" their phones.   Limiting our ability to set the permissions for the apps we want on our phones is just plain frustrating!

Re: Razr V3xx java permissions have GOT to be fixed

i do have to say that what is required to get rid of the java nag is not enough to be considered a hack......

you d/load p2kcommander, usb drivers..... install usb drivers (just a double click or two).....fire up p2kcomm, locate a particular file and delete (probably should make a copy before deleting though)......that's it!

really really easy.  seem edits are little more along the lines of a hack.....ie - you truly run the risk of destroying your phone with an errant change....lol, cuz that is when/where the rush comes in!!
