3G or "4g"

I live in southeast Kansas and service sucks. We have the so called edge network which is a joke. I used to get 3 to 5 bars and could do twitter or surf the web. Now at that same level I get "No Network Found" the small town 20 miles away has 4g, when are we going to get a better more reliable network? I live 1/2 mile from an AT&T tower and have to go outside to make a call. AT&T is getting useless, Verizon is looking better all the time. Sucks because I have 5 phones and been a customer for approximately 5 years. Was told they were upgrading to 4g in our area by end of the week, 3 weeks later and I guess Friday will never get here.

The problems you're experiencing happen when the network is being upgraded. You're 4g upgrade is on the way.

I live in parsons and after I went to Indy in april, I was on EDGE.  I went back in May i had a 3G connection.

I called AT&T when i got home and griped about them getting it before us, because they are a smaller town.

They told me that on June 30, the grand street tower and queens road tower was getting upgraded with 3G.

The problem is that it's now july 5, and my iPhone still says E.  I just called them and tech said that those towers were live.

I guess the handover is going through some growing pains!  Or something else?

Well I live in Parsons also and still no 3G or so called "4g" as they want us to believe. If the towers are live I guess we have to drive out to the towers and sit under them in order to get that speed. Well I think when all my phones come due I will just switch them all to another carrier that maybe cares about their customers, because from my point of view, at&t sure and the heck don't.

I don't think switching to Verizon will help.  Install the AT&T Marks the Spot app and report a slow data connection and see if they send you a text back saying an upgrade is on the way.  Also, before 3G or 4G upgrades are live the local signal usually gets pretty bad as they do the upgrade.

It did get worse to the point of not working. It picked up to snail speed at this time. As you see post above mine, from same area, they were told it's live. Still get the E and little if any network activity. I have to run from wifi to wifi in order to use my smartphone which is rediculous for what I pay.

Uh yeah. Still not working.

Call 611 and ask why aren't the parsons towers transmitting 3G signals.  I exhausted my *611 complaints about this area.

I was told numerous times that this area is covered now.

According to the AT&T coverage map, there is no 3G yet.

We have been told the towers were upgraded and working but are not yet.

Yep, maybe the big upgrade was to improve EDGE!!!

But seriously, I suppose that until the indicater changes we get what we get.  I'm not going to call them again about it

Did they give you an excuse when you called them?  Asked you to turn phone off then reboot it?

The officiall reps said that all upgrades complete here.  There is no broadband connection here as of now.

Well called, was told queens road was not live yet but should have been. Status shows pending. The grand street tower they said could be another 6 months.

Verizon just turned on LTE here in parsons Kansas.
I suppose that's the only choice. I just don't want to pay the etf for two phones! Looks like Verizen and sprint wins in SEK

Yep. But I still have 1 year on 4 phones. So not an option for me right now. Will ride it and see what happens.

Ya, I don't blame you for that. A guy at my work bought the new iPad 4G LTE for a gob of money.
What's funny about that he lives in Galesburg.
No coverage. Oh yeah he nenews AT&T on those devices

Well if things aren't better by the time my contract is up I will be changing carriers. Done with AT&T, and they say they have the best coverage. My butt.

Hutchinson Kansas is on edge. Thats unheard of in today's technology. 40,000 population. When Wichita gets LTE. I'm not understanding AT&T priorities.
West Kansas has full broadband. Makes no sense.
Who lives in west Kansas?

Yeah my daughter lives in Hutchinson and says at&t sucks there. Lucky if she get 2 bars. But yeah that's AT&T for you give LTE to an area of little population over very populated areas.

Isn't it nice that Abilene Kansas has had 4g for a long time? Pratt, dodge city? Liberal ks has 4g,, it's confusing why there but not where the people are?

But what gets me is one tower in Parsons is ready it just needs turned on. Was supposed to be on end of June, now it's almost September. I just don't get it, how hard is it to flip a switch.

I seen the updated coverage viewer. 3G has expanded to McCune right at the county line. Parsons looks encompassed with it. I think that's messed up.

My sister switched to Verizen and pulls 14- 18 mb with LTE! Dang it

Yeah was told when I bought the iPhone 5 it would go live in December.

In the Year of Our Lord, December 11, 2012, and about mid morning, I noticed a GREAT BIG 4G on the top of my Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartypants phone.  Yes, Parsons, KS and surrounding area have graduated from 2G EDGE service, all the way to 4G service.  Not LTE, mind you, but 4G nevertheless.  WOW!  There have to be a lot of VERY happy ATT Wireless customers in this area today.  I just can't stop looking at that BIG 4G with lightning bolts crackling on top of it as it does it's thing.  WOW!  

P.S.  Hope it doesn't go away overnight?
