ATT's launched 4G/LTE services over the weekend (09/18) seem to be faster in some cities over others that were included in the first phase rollout?
Houston and Chicago were compared and it appears that Houston is fastest even though both got the LTE upgraded network. According to the study, Chicago isnt one of ATT's strongest markets (Versizon is biggest in Chicago).
As far as ATT's comparison of its own network fast/slow results between cities, the difference in Spectrum. Houston has more than Chicago, giving Houston more "juice" to work with. (10 MHz vs 5MHz)
Other cities planned for a next phase could be Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, San Francisco, and Washington. As far as how fast 4G/LTE will be , again depends on the spectrum for each area.
Looks like the ATT / TMO deal would benefit customers in areas where the combined spectrum would bring most coverage to cities up to the "optumized" 10MHz needed to experience the full capacity of speed in a location.
As far as ATT vs Verizons LTE Comparison check this out.
