No bars, No 3G, No Data, No Nothing!! Help!!

First, I would like to say that I have been with AT&T since the days of "Cingular"...over 10 years now. With that being said, I really do not want to switch to T-Mobile, Verizon and/or Sprint but starting to get the feeling that I may not have an option.
Since Monday, 8/15/11, I have no service in my home; home being Long Beach, NY. Not one bar, nothing but the "emergency call" only. When I leave my home, I have service. This is my only phone (no landline). Besides being self-employed and God only knows how many calls I have missed over the last week, I can't reach-out to friends, family, etc.
I have called AT&T almost every single day since 8/15...today being 8/22. Over and over again, I am told that a tower is down. Is a tower really down for over 1-week now? Everyone else coming in & out of my home has wireless service without problems. Very nice of AT&T to credit my account but that really does me no good...I need service not a credit!!
HELP please!! Really, really, do NOT want to make the switch!!

Hi Lisa - I'm really sorry you're having continued service issues. I'm going to send you a private message with some additional information so we can get to work on this.

Appreciate your help but we are now going on day 8 of no service / "Emergency Only".
I wish I had a dollar for every customer service / tech person I have talked with over the last 7-days!! Yes, a tower is down in my area and no one can give me any idea of just how long this problem will exist. Should I deduct from my montly bill every day it takes to restore service?
The only things that have changed in the last 7-days is 1 - my patience level, 2 - gathered info from Sprint, Verizon & T-mobile and 3 - my phone works in a small square section near my garage...a small miracle!!
It does appear that I am not letting AT&T go but rather AT&T is letting me go.

Dont feel bad Im having the very same problems... I switched from verizon to cingular almost 7 years ago and had almost no problems... however for the last couple weeks my cell phone has been going from 0 to 4 bars constantly messages arent being sent or received and calls keep dropping... I used to always have service down here in Camp Lejeune, NC... But Im guessing its time to switch back to verizon... Im getting fed up as well... pretty ridiculous when Im expected to abide by a service contract when Im not getting service... AT&T your service lately is rather disappointing

Yes, it is both disappointing and upsetting. Here's what I have observed in the wireless forum. I'm seeing reports by former Cingular customers that have not updated their phones for many years. With phone technology moving faster than the already mature PC technology, one would have to update phones every few years. Day 8 -- Emergency Only!!
The only difference on day 8 is that I received an email from AT&T:
"I sincerely apologize but it looks like there is in fact an outage in that
area. We have technicians working on it as we speak but unfortunately I do not
have an ETA to provide at this time. Again, I am very sorry."
Basically, same newsflash for 8-days: There is a tower situation in your area but we are unable to tell you when that problem may be rectified.

Was the ATT person able to help.
I am also without coverage all over my area. It got dramatically worse late July.

Leesalie, what yoru status on services/ I hope all is well or on the way to repair. I see we have a new feature or new service on the site that may very well be ATT representation finally. That is a good thing!
Can you let us know in your initiated string here how your issue was resolved? it would be helpful to others in similar situation.

@leesali- I also live in Long Beach (West End) and was just going to sign up for AT&T wireless. Thanks for your post slowing me down. Can you *please* let me know if the tower's fixed and your service is ok again?

Might be able to determine if its downed or degraded towers thats causing which towers are up to be overloaded, causing spotty service.
