When I tried the AT&T service in my house for the first 30 days it work great. I do not have a home phone, because of the service provider we have in our area. I started looking into cell phones that work in my house. The first 30 days with AT&T it worked great up to about a month age. I did not get 3G here to start with, but it worked very good for incoming and outgoing calls. Now I have to drive down the street about a block to get service and it takes forever to send a call out. I have not called AT&T about this yet. I thought it was something wrong with my phone, but my wife's Iphone is doing the same thing. I have the Samsung Windows phone and it does not get service at my house and my wife's does the same thing. This is a fairly new plan so I am stuck with it for 2 years. No way am I going to drive down the street to make a call for the next 2 years at the price I am paying for this service. Can anyone help me out with this? How can I get this fixed?

Sorry to hear you're having service issues.
My first suggestion is to take a look at out Coverage Map to verify what level of signal you should expect. If you're experiencing different coverage than what you should have, definitely let us know.
Also, check out the Mark the Spot app where you can report coverage issues.

Sorry for the miss leading post.
I have the Samsung focus.
My wife has the IPhone.
Both phones are doing the same thing. We do not get service any where around us now. I had to drive almost 4 blocks yesterday to make a call. It seems to be getting worse.
We are in the best coverage zone when I using the coveage map from AT&T website. I will call AT&T sometime today and see what can be done. Thanks for the help.

Don't bother with Mark-the-Spot. It is merely a customer mollification device. It gives you something to do while your phone is failing to do something useful.

Hmmm, I'm having the same issue. There was a storm in my area back in JULY and one of the towers near me was out for a week or so. They claim it has been fixed, but my coverage at home still stinks. It was never stellar, but this is ridiculous.
We have 5 AT&T phones in the house (one is from my company) and 4 have very low signal (1-2 bars if we're lucky) when we used to have 3-4. My daughter's Samsung Impression is affected the most, it has NO bars and doesn't even register to the network at home. When we leave the house, about 1.5 -2 miles away, she gets service and receives all the text msgs that have been queuing up. Service on my personal android (Samsung infuse) and company (blackberry curve) phones is improved in similar areas as well. Her phone used to get a consistently better signal than mine, but not since this problem started.
We've reported the signal issues, opened cases, etc. and just today I installed and used the marks-a-spot app on my android, but I don't hold out much hope. I feel like it's just one excuse after another and meantime I'm paying for full service. Good thing I kept my land line!!
Has your service improved yet??/

Thanks for the pointers. I will have to be more diligent about contacting them every day or two. I did mention that I was paying for services we couldn't use and the rep gave me a one-time credit "for my trouble", but definitely not equivalent to the cost of service lost. I'll be sure to keep that in mind too! *sigh* Just wish they'd get it fixed...I'm surrounded by verizon users and they just love to trash my carrier...right now it's tough to defend.

I had another hare-brained scheme...was thinking of buying a new phone system for the house that has DECT. Isn't that supposed to sync up with your cell phone? I do dislike the idea of paying for yet another device just to be able to use cell phones at home though. Hmmmm

I am having a similar problem. My daughter bought me an IPhone 4 from the ATT store in CT. They shipped it to me.
I have had the phone a little over 2 weeks. At first I was just dropping calls and only had 2 bars.
I upgraded to OS5 at the Apple store , they checked my phone and said it is fine.
The first day I am droping calls worse then ever. By day two I have 1 bar , No service, The E which I have no idea what it means. I missed two calls from my Dr that morning. I have a serious health condition and cannot have a phone that does not work, misses calls, and at times I can only text on it. others I can only call from outside a block away.
I had T Mobile, I NEVER had any problem with service. We are on a family plan. My daughter decided to switch she wanted and IPHONE and she thought ATT was a good company with good service.
I am really upset, I have been missing calls for 3 days now. Before I would miss some but not all and I could talk a bit before and then drop the call. I dropped a call 6 times with a friend the other night and this was before I upgraded, now it is worse.
Oh, I can call from Barned and Noble, they have a ATT wifi network. However, that is 3 miles away, so, if my Dr calls, I wil miss it. I have to take a bus and the trolley to get to the store.
What if I have an emergency I cannot call the DR or 911!
They bought the phone Sept 30th. I am disgusted. I love the phone , but it is working as an MP3 player/ camera right now.
My daughter is getting OK, service, not good, but not as bad as mine. I am in CA.
I looked at the maps... some say I am in a good area, some put me in a dead zone... the one you posted has me as orange.
I need help!
I cannot go on like this. I reported it to ATT on Friday they told me they will get back to me in 5 days. 5 days, what am I supposed to do?
Upset first time ATT customer. I had T Mobile for 4 years no problem!

You may need a temporary T-Mobile prepaid phone, until the iPhone problem is resolved.

I live in Indiana and had Centennial Wireless for 4 years before they were bought out by AT&T. Centennial provided exceptional coverage/service, so I decided to cross over my line to AT&T during the conversion grace period (and leave my two family members with Centennial until they would be automatically crossed over at a later date.)
I was in love with my new iPhone 3GS 16GB, and my service was fine....... for about 10 months. Around November, 2010, I began to miss calls and have complete inability to dial out or send texts about 85% of the time IN MY OWN HOME!!! My other two phones (not yet crossed over) seemed to be okay... I even moved to try to live in a "better signal" area of town.... only to find increasingly frequent dropped calls en route to/from work and, even, in my new home. (The calls seem to always drop at almost the exact same spot on the road, btw, while I am commuting to and from work.)
Since that November, I have spent HOURS of my life dealing with my horrible service. I almost lost my job as a store manager because my superiors or employees have struggled to contact me. To resolve my issues, I have:
Changed sim cards, reset network settings, reset and wiped my phone clean, put in a request to have a local tower inspected, used the "Mark the Spot" app (which, I feel, is just another entry on a HUGE spreadsheet.) I could go on and on.... I AM SIMPLY DISSATISFIED AND HAVE PURCHASED LESS THAN FAIR SERVICE WITH AT&T....
Yet, I remain loyal and keep hoping it will improve.... But I don't know how much longer.

@JFizDaWiz A car is a luxury too, but doesnt mean you should just say eh, and go without it. Your car is not gauranteed to start either, but when it doesnt, you get it fixed...
If you are in a "service area" and "service" doesnt work, its time that someone look into it. Same goes with my amazingly junky HTC Vivid that states its on LTE, but I have no data access, it does not switch to 4G or 3G which are all available in my area. It used to work out here great, that is why I spent the massive amount of money to get this phone before my upgrade date, and low and behold, she and I have no LTE, and no other data access either (unless we are 5+ miles away from our neighborhood).
[Please keep it courteous]

The problem you guys are having is when they do upgrades the new antennas may not align exactly the way the old edge antennas did. If you had good service and lost it keep calling to complain. There is always the option of putting an antenna in your house hooked up to your internet.

They may provide you one if your signal disappeared. You may have to fight to get it free.
