Several years ago I switched to a Razor because it was supposed to have better signal reception and it worked fine. WHen BB came out with the Bold (2yrs ago) I switched to that device and was pleased for some time.
Last 8 - 10 months level of service has dropped significantly and phone is useless at my home. Can see a tower less than 2 miles from house. Good coverage nearer the tower. Other family have phones through other carriers and get excellent coverage here. I get excellent coverage elsewhere but not at home.
Rep at AT&T store replaced SIM stating that the cards become worn over time - that did not help.
Did see a booster box I can buy from AT&T for $150+/- that is supposed to improve signal strength but shy should I have to purchase this to make up for deficient service from AT&T.
Had been planning to get iPhone4 but will probably go to Cell South or Verizon if AT&T cannot improve coverage at my house
Anyone else having similar issues?

Yes, my wife and I have the same problem.
We "solved" the problem by switching the phone to 2g/EDGE network. Both ATT phones, one IPhone and one BB 9700 work fine by doing that.
When in San Antonio, I switch back to 2g/3g and it works fine then. In my home town, I have to use 2G.
