I'm in S.E. Wisconsin. My daily commutes take me all over in an 8 county area. 95
% of the time I cannot maintain a call while on the move, while my friends on US Cellular seem to maintain signal anywhere from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi. Why can't ATT do that?

It could be an issue with the phone or it could be an issue with the towers. If you name your phone, you can get better help.

I don't think it's so much of a problem with the phone.Other friends on ATT have talked about the same thing.

I live in La Crosse, WI and having bars isn't the problem in most places but some places I don't because of the hills and valleys in the region. What I get more often is when I try to make a call, I get a message that says "Emergency Calls Only" and won't allow me to call. Also, when I lived on the north side of town, in the apartment I was in, I couldn't get signal in my bedroom and poor quality signal everywhere else except the doorway into the apartment. If AT&T is supposed to be providing me service here, why is it so spotty and why the Emergency Calls Only thing?

I was working in Crawford county last year and could only get signal in about a 50' square area on top of one of the bluffs. along the east bank of the river I couldn't get anything until I was half way back to Prairie du Chien, and then I would get the "emergency calls only" message quite often. I realize the bluffs and valleys out there can block the signal, but the guys with different carriers didn't have as much trouble.

If you are on a 2 yr contract, how far are you into the contract?
What answers did you get when you talked to AT&T tech support?

Tech support implied that the t-mobile merger would add the bandwidth needed to increase coverage. My contract goes to March at which point I'm readyto jump ship to US Cellular.

I agree, in the same areas you mention I seem to have considerably weaker signal than other carriers, especially inside buildings. Come on AT&T

Well unfortunately, that merger was stopped by the feds and now ATT actually lost some spectrum due to the out clauses. How are the local planning boards? Have they created so many barriers to ATT being able to construct new towers that the merger was the least expensive option?
Now on a funny side, I have lived in Wisconsin previously so when I saw the title of this post I was thinking the bars where on each corner:-) Nothing like the classic beer signs that hang outside many of the old bars!

Yep I was thinking the same thing. And yes, they are still on every corner. The big white Old Style signs and the like, gotta love it.
