Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters - HS-47?

Marty -

I can't find the HS-47 stereo headset as a standalone accessory.
It looks like it came standard with the Nokia 5200.
Where can I purchase it individually?

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters - HS-47?

part of the need for the adaptor is to use the phone with other things. i personally wouldnt ever use it with headphones... but i would use it in the car to play music through the stereo.

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

The 2.5 mm port is what Nokia is calling their "new AV" connector.  Nokia makes an adapter called the AD-50 which will adapt it to a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack.  However, I don't know of anywhere to purchase this adapter by itself.  It does come with the MD-4 mini speakers, which you can get here: http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=141609 or on eBay.  Hope this helps.

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

I have spent the past few hours learning about this Nokia 2.5 mm AV connector.
It's cool but getting the info was not. First off I measured and figured out what I
thought was there, and I was right. You can see from this website: http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/nokia_handsfree_pinout.shtml
Then I found adapters on this website:
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article7.html
I just want to plug my E62 into the PA system to play mp3 sound when I am
playing gigs as a musician - backup tracks and break music. So to make it
work, the microphone/button circuit in the included handsfree mono earbud/
button/mic lump needs to be connected at least. So, I think, a breakout box
will work like this: a 2.5 mm 4 conductor male connector goes into the E62,
with the tip, top ring and ground connected to a 3.5 mm female connector
(or a pair of 1/4" jacks) and the bottom ring and ground connected to a 2.5 mm
female 'pass-through' jack to plug the included handsfree thing into. A circuit
equivalent to the mic/button circuit will probably be figured out later on.

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

Thanks for your detective work.  The obvious solution seems to be a simple adapter, but I wonder why some of the folks posting earlier in this thread have had trouble with them.  I took a meter to my Nokia HS-47 stereo headset tonight (which works fine electrically but leaves something to be desired as far as musical reproduction).  There is about 40 ohms between either left or right and ground, which implies the dynamic drivers are connected directly.  There is also about 1.6 K ohms between the mic sleeve and ground, and pressing the button on the mic shunts a 47 ohm resistor across it.  I would find it hard to believe that there is anything intelligent in the headset, so if a straight-through adapter doesn't work, at most it might take a few resistors to fool the E62 into thinking it is looking at a genuine Nokia headset.  I'll pick up the connectors in the next few days and see what I can figure out.

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

[ Edited ]
All I know at this point is that I've tried a 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo-to-stereo adaptor and it will not work.  Nokia makes that jack proprietary so that you must purchase their equipment to make it work.  There might be a few items out there that some have had success with but, for the most part, it is designed to force the purchase of Nokia hardware.

I'll try a bluetooth v2.0 headset sometime in the future but needed a headset tonight for a flight tomorrow.  Did not realize this would be that difficult.  Stopped by the Cingular store and they told me they did not carry any compatible stereo headphones (exeption: bluetooth).

I've reached the end of my rope with this phone.  Could have been a really nice piece of hardware if it wasn't for Cingular's proprietary software and Nokia's proprietary jacks.  I think I might switch carriers next time around and not get another Nokia ever again.

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

It looks like this new "Nokia 2.5mm AV interface" port is used on the 9390, 5200, and 5300 as well. According to nokia.co.uk, the HS-81 headset uses this port, and is compatible with those phones. They doesn't mention the E62, but then the E62 isn't available in the UK.
So if you come across an adapter that works on those phones, it should work on the E62 as well.
Has anyone tried the PPC Techs PPCPADPT11 2.5mm to 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Adapter?

Re: E62 Stereo Headset or adapters

I ordered the parts to make an adapter for the 2.5mm A/V jack
and it does work. As I explained (earlier post), the plug tip and
top ring are the left and right, along with the ground I ran them
to a 3.5mm stereo jack, and the bottom ring and ground I ran
to the bottom ring and ground of a 2.5mm 4 conductor jack. I
plugged my sony headphones into the 3.5mm jack and the
handsfree 'earphone/mic/button lump' cord that came with my
E62 I plugged into the 2.5mm jack. I plugged the 2.5mm plug
into my Nokia E62 and what certainly appears to be stereo
sound comes out of my headphones. If I plug the adapter in
without the handsfree deal plugged in it says "Enhancement
not supported" as reported by others. The parts were bought
online from Mouser.com for $3.83 plus $6.50 for priority mail.
They have no minimum order anymore! Part Numbers are:
171-7425 (Kobiconn 2.5mm plug)
16PJ106-EX (Kobiconn 3.5mm jack)
161-6425 (Kobiconn 2.5mm jack)

It still appears that Bluetooth is only supported in mono.
