Data plan required?

Hi I'm needing a new phone and want one with fm radio but no smartphone data plan, which doesn't seem to be available on any of the phones currently offered by AT&T so I've been looking elsewhere. I'm considering the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman (WT13i) but haven't been able to determine if it will require a data plan; it does not have a fancy operating system, like blackberry, android, windows, or iOS, and it's a 2g phone, but it has edge, which I've seen on both phones that do and don't require a smartphone data plan. Does anyone know how to tell?

It is probably not a phone that requires a data plan but consider that Edge may not have many years left in all areas of the country. As ATT deploys Edge, they may need to sunset EDGE in an area. It has happened in a few areas but is not yet wide spread.

youngjm is correct, edge's days are numbered, where t-mobile is bring up lte, edge is being shut down
