Okay so yesterday at the ATT store, my honey went and got a new SIM for his new Xperia ion which he bought from Ebay, and from all we'd read the phone would not read the micro sim and the documentation for the phone shows some with the mini and some with the micro. He didn't have the phone with him at the store so didn't know which it was and the store employees were of little help having never heard of the phone. They sold him a new mini sim and a 50 buck unlimited talk/text per month prepaid.
Here's the problem: This works on his Xperia U phone which he had gotten the Xperia Ion to replace, but, as it turns out, not the Xperia Ion itself that he went in to buy it for (model LT28i, apparently) which has a micro SIM slot.
Can he get a micro SIM and still keep the minutes and number that he got yesterday, somehow to transfer them to the new phone which uses only micro SIM? Or can he cut down the sim they gave him (which didn't have the micro template cutout like some have in addtion to the mini) to fit the card slot on the Ion and have it work okay? Its a brand new number, but its easy to remember so we'd like to keep it, if possible, and definitely want the minutes since he just bought them yesterday.
Are the contacts the same as on the mini with just less plastic or are the new micro sims somehow more finicky and won't do the cut down thing on the newer phones?

Lesson learn! Wait next time...
Won't hurt trying, but I seriously doubt you'll get anywhere with AT&T transferring that sim.
