I got a GoPhone Smartphone, is there ANY way possible to get the internet to work on it with the $50.00/month plan? Any possible way, please help.

There's got to be a way. How does AT&T know it's a smartphone from a flip phone. There's got to be some way past it.

They know. Each phone has a unique IEMI number which tells the system what type of the device is being used, make and model. IEMI can not be changed and the system can not be fooled.

No, there is no workaround for this, as far as I know of. You will not be able to take advantage of unlimited data while using a smartphone.

This sucks. I hate having to switch sims cards and phones just to use Internet. Att should stop being greedy and fix this.

Technically, there are workarounds. However, it involves trying to find smartphones with IMEI's that AT&T doesn't have a record of (e.g. T-Mobile branded or international versions of Android smartphones). Of course, finding a smartphone with an unknown IMEI that also supports AT&T's 3G band can be difficult.

If you've got an AT&T branded phone you wish to use, then tough. There's no workaround for that.

Could this the reason why my internet service on an unlimited gophone account has suddenly stopped working. I was on contract and switched from my at&t flip phone to an unlocked nokia 5800. 3 months ago I then switched to the gophone account and internet worked fine, then about 2 weeks ago it just stopped, opera gives error message that connection was refused. I can still connect on my wifi at home so don't think it is the phone, I called and also went to see them and got nowhere (the store even managed to lose my sim card), but they could not see any blocks on my account, when speaking to them on the phone they knew I didn't have an at&t phone and I had never reported a change of phone so maybe this block is via my IEMI number, thoughts?

IDK but I hate ATT sometimes, I know there is a way. Theres always a way, they just, like Area 51, dont want to reveal the secret how. They know how, they want us to pay cause they are greedy!

Most likely, yes. Switching from a feature phone to a smartphone would have just caused you to add a data plan when you had your post paid contract line, but the prepaid Nokia 5800 is a smartphone and the data portion of the $50 Unlimited plan will not work with your phone.

That's my point though, for two months it did work! I guess they just updated their IEMI list and my phone was included!

Wouldn't have thought the Nokia 5800 would be considered a smartphone, though. As far as I'm aware, their definition of smartphone is: Android, Blackberry, iOS, Windows Phone 7.

Does data work if you switch your SIM card back to your flip phone? What APN settings are you using?

That is what i was thinking, it's not an out and out smartphone. If I put my sim in my flip phone then it works on the media net network. I see that on my 5800 but it doesn't connect but it never has.

The settings for my APN that I was connecting on have not changed and from what research I did look like they are still current (but what would i know)

Try removing the password.

Don't forget to add Symbian to the mix of smartphone OSes, which is precisely what the Nokia 5800 operates on.

Symbian smartphones used to be exempt from the smartphone data rules. Really curious if AT&T has had a change in policy or something or if the poster just got unlucky and there's some other unknown issue with his account.

Is it possible to bypass the MEdia NET page by using custom APN settings or a Custom proxy and server? (similar to bypassing blocked websites at school)

There is more than likely a way to get past the MEdia Net settings, but I have absolutely NO idea of how to do that. Have you called customer service, yet? (Pardon me if you already mentioned that you had and I failed to acknowledge that you did.)

Yes I initially started off calling customer service and they aid my account had no block on it at all, they went through various checks and then said they could do know more because it was a non at&t phone and i should call nokia. Going in the store was even les helpful, they tried switching sim cards and lost my old one before copying the data!

I may try calling them again and see if they can do any more.

Calling again doesn't hurt. Often times there are more competent reps availble out there that could be much more helpful than the last representative was.
