Get a giga switch like Netgear GS105 (5 ports) or GS108 (8 ports). If another brand make sure it is 802.1p compliant and you'll be good to go. ![]()

OK, i'll need to show my ignorance here.
This won't replace the router, correct? But i can run a line from the router and then plug everything else into this Netgear switch? If so, all in all, this would give me 8 open ports (with the 5 port switch), right? The 3 extra from the router and the 5 from the switch.
Or am i just misunderstanding and oversimplifying?

Exactly. Although you lose one port on each device to connect them together so with a 5 port switch, you'd have 7 available ports -- 3 in the RG (residental gateway/router) and 4 in the switch.

A regular ethernet patch cord should work fine, just like you're connecting a device to it. Check the documentation and it will tell you, I've seen many that a regular one and crossover will both work fine. ![]()

As long as one side supports Auto-MDIX (auto-crossover) either a cross or straight cable will work. Assuming you have the 3800HGV 2-wire RG you're fine.

Hello .... If I purchase the Linksys Router GS105 will I have to change any IPs or any reprogram'g? I had purchased a DYNEX 4Port Router at Best Buy that worked until I tried to use my wireless connection on my Dell VISTA Laptop and I only had a Local Connection and Not the Internet.
Also, on the connections ... do I connect from the port on 2-wire to any port on the new router?
The AT&T level one support and level two support were useless. They told me to call 2-wire support and 2-wire told me because I was an AT&T U-verse customer they could not support me.

The GS105 is actually made by NetGear, not Linksys. And it's a switch, not a router.
But yes, that is the exact item you need to increase the number of available ports on the RG. No reconfiguration of anything is necessary. No particular port required -- just take a short Ethernet cable, plug on end into one of the ports on the RG, and the other end into any of the 5 ports on the NetGear GS105.

Thanks for the fast response. Yes it is Netgear and it is a Switch. I had purchased a router that did not work and I confused the two.
I'll purchase one and see it it works. Again Thanks and I'll get back with you.
