The more HD channels they add the more this problem will come up.
If you only watch HD then it would be limited to only 2 shows at a time!

It wasn't an experiment. It was an accident made by whoever processed your initial order. For you its a good thing as long as you never try to upgrade to HD.
Nobody can request 5 streams though.

I sure can see where folks with families will have a problem with only the 4 SD/2 HD streams available. Fortunately we no longer have kids at home and this particular limit doesn't really affect us.....at least....not so far. But when more and more HD channel become available OR (wishful thinkgin) we switch to ALL HD AT&T will have to increase the number of available streams, IMHO.

Just remember the digital switch is is to digital (480p) and not HD (720p, 1080i&p), granted some stations/networks now broadcast in HD.

Yes but, when the everyone else is adding HD channels and support for multiple recordings in HD I don't want to see AT&T get left behind.
ATT could offer that now, but they want to keep everyone equal. 510' from the VRAD my max sync is 65-67Mbps, how many streams could I get if it wasn't arbitrarly capped @ 25Mbps? When VDSL2(pair bonding) comes it will be 250Mbps @ source, 100Mbps @1640', 50Mbps @3280' and degrages at a slower rate than that w/ 24Mbps @5280'. It's still going to be a matter of being closer in to get the better speeds. @510' I'd have max sync of 150-180Mbps. The big question is how is ATT going to market/price this situation?

Yeah I hope your wrong for a number of reasons... But when compared to what other providers are doing in the area its hard to imagine that AT&T would leave everything as is..
Time Warner is offering faster internet for the same price as I'm paying for the AT&T max connection, The county I live in is mixed right now, Half AT&T and half Verizon.. Don't get me wrong, I love uverse and have had it for a little over a month but where I live is very tech savvy and AT&T has pretty good packages now, Come the first of the year... Things will be completely different here.
But you may be right. I can walk down to the VRAD and still get really strong wifi signal on my iPhone.. So who knows what their plans are for pair bonding... One of the things I would like to see them do is move to the iNID so I can get the RG out of my living room...

I agree randy, but who knows what ATT is going to do as it's only about a 2000' increase in reach over Uverse now and I'm probably running on a VDSL2 card right now. Rightrudder, it will be here maybe by years's end but probably not til 2009. They are having problems w/crosstalk between the 2 pairs. Generally ATT doesn't add features just in a certain area, they roll them out nationwide even if you are in a tech savvy area. Take cable internet speeds with a grain of salt, you aren't going to get those speeds on a neighborhood loop @8pm.

OK, At least now I know they are working on it... Will there be a RG change when they move to VDSL2? And will this allow more the 2HD streams and faster internet connections?
As Randy stated they may just leave those of us that are already installed alone. ATT was talking about in 2005 and started working on pair bonding in 2007. You probably are on a VDSL2 card in the VRAD already since they've been installing them during 2008. If they go to the iNID for VDSL2, the RG is built into the iNID. Who knows how ATT is going to market to those of us already installed.

I ran into this On Monday. I was actually using all 4 streams and we only have 2 TV's in the house. Wife had a couple of shows she wanted, and I had shows I wanted. For 3 hours all streams were benig used(from 7-10pm central)
With the new TV seasons starting, we'll see how Uverse holds up cause they moved a lot of my shows to the same days now causing confilct.

Okay, I know I saw it a while ago, but how can you tell how far you are from the VRAD? I can see the one from my bedroom window, but I know that doesn't mean I am that close to it.
Is it from these stats that you can tell?
| Current Rate: | 25216 kbs | 2048 kbs | ||||||||
| Max Rate: | 45844 kbs | Not Available | ||||||||
| Current Connection: | ||||||||||
| Current Noise Margin: | 18.0 dB | Not Available | ||||||||
| Current Attenuation: | 25.6 dB | Not Available | ||||||||
| Current Output Power: | 14.0 dBm | -9.6 dBm | ||||||||

I'd say w/max sync of 44M, you're probably about 1200-1500' from the VRAD. You can't get your distance anywhere from the gateway, I got mine, 510', from my installer. David can tell how far you are or if a prem tech comes back, he could get it, but he would have to disconnect you and take a direct reading @ NID or he'd be adding your loop length inside and get an inaccurate reading.

I just can't see pair bonding coming out very soon. It seems like there is still quite a bit of testing to do and as I said before that may be the easy part. The engineering involved is going to be very difficult in some areas.
I think realistically they will go by your sync rates, not distance from VRAD, to determine whether or not an upgrade is available for any users. I realize that sync rates and distance go hand in hand but the only thing that truly matters is your max bandwidth to the RG.
I don't know how much bandwidth 1 HD stream takes up now but I'm sure many of us have the capacity for it.

seems to be a connection factor to that # as well
since chris knows he is 510 ' he can divide it out with his info
and u could factor that into yours PIP ...
may not be exact but ???
a thought

I know when I got installed the lady said my distance is about 150ft. I'm about 3 houses down from mine, there is another one at the other end of my street (about a mile and a half).
Will the current RGs handle the upgrade to VDSL2, maybe with a firmware update?

Randy, figure it out how? Remember, you are talking to an absolute dummy when it comes to any kind of math. ![]()
I think a guestimate is good enough anyway. ![]()
I don't suppose living in an apt would make a difference, would it? I have no idea where our NID is even at...in the utility room, most likely.

we need chris to post his (specs) Message
| yours Current Attenuation: | 25.6 dB | Not Available |
if his is 12.8 db (his is 1/2) u would be at 1020 ft (example purposes only) he is prolly at 7.* or so
so we can factor it into 510 feet then apply that to your situation ... simple ![]()
walla an estimate .... and yes u are on the 3rd floor ??? so u have a run from the nid to u and the nid is on one end of your apt ???
the maint guy can tell u where the nid is i bet ???
clear as mud right ??
| Current Rate: | 25216 kbs | 2048 kbs | ||||||||

| Current Attenuation: | 14.2 dB | Not Available | ||||||||
| Current Output Power: | 14.3 dBm | -20.6 dBm | ||||||||
my distance is unknown so i cant help ya (i think im about 1000' + or -
chris knows his is 510' right ?? so in that light chris is prolly around 7.5 attenuation if theory is true ...
so to further wild a** guess u are least around 2000' or more ..

If this helps any.. I know mine is 150Ft.
Current Noise Margin: 27.5 dB (Downstream)
7.0 dB (Downstream)
11.3 dB (Downstream) -28.6 db (Upstream)
