I've been with AT&T Uverse for just about 3 months and rebooting the receiver is getting old. At least once a day one of my receivers "locks" and I have to reboot. Sometimes the only solution is to pull the power cord - even the power switch on the receiver doesn't work. Occassionally one HD channel will go black - this seems to be the one local channel I watch more than others (channel 1005 in Charleston, SC) and the only cure I have found for this is again a reboot. The HD channel is NOT off the air, because I am set up to view over-the -air TV and I check that before moving on. The SD channel -5- is always OK and the thumbnail preview video is present.
This is getting old and could take me back to DISH Network.

ATT may be trying to do something about the blacked-out HD channels. An ATT epanel I took last week asked about blacked-out channels and how they were fixed, so maybe there will be a better solution than rebooting.
Would be nicer if they just stopped them going black in the first place. The little preview image when browsing is just an SD stream for that channel and is not really related to the HD stream. ![]()

I have only had the service about two weeks and have had to reboot one wireless receiver twice and the other once. I guess that isn't excessive but it is annoying. Twice I got the message that the signal was lost and tonight it said that the DVR needed the channel and the screen went blank. There was no scheduled recording and the DVR was not in use.
If this continues I will think I went back in time and am running Windows 3.0 again. You had to reboot all of the time.
I think next time I am going to see if the help menu will come up.

Contact the ts using the phone number in my sig and let them know what is going on. Ask the csr to run a test on your service to see if there are any errors in your service.

I have just come to terms with the fact that our gateway will reboot itself at least once a day and sometimes more than that and that the one receiver in my room will never, ever, ever, be able to put out audio on an HD channel for more than 2 minutes at a time before sputtering.

Another channel just went black. Have to reboot to get picture back. Changed hdmi to component and same results. Have only had uverse for about 5 weeks. Thinking about switching back to Cox. Seems like uverse has lots of problems and no solution except to reboot.

I use HDMI with the wireless receiver and have been having the same problem.
I've not had the problem since lowering my aspect ratio to 720p (from 1080i). Still connected via HDMI using the wireless STB but it hasn't reset itself in over 24 hours (and had been resetting once a day prior to the adjustment). Also noticed that the screen doesn't pixelate nearly as much (hardly at all) at 720p.
Fingers crossed... hopefully this will continue to function without the persistent resets.

You did actually remove the HDMI cable & not leave it connected?

Removed hdmi cables and replaced with component. Channel still black. Watched other channels and channel was still black after an hour. Picture came back after rebooting. This is not a wireless unit but the Motorola vip 1225.

Unluckily I think it is a bug in DVR programming as most times the blacked-out channel is recordable. If not, in most cases the Ethernet or HPNA light would still be blinking like it is still streaming. ![]()

Thank you for your suggestions. It did work. I wanted to watch survivor on 1008 tonight and of course the channel was black. I attempted to turn on 1008 on my other hd STD and it was also black. I turned on record and then play and yes suddenly the picture appeared on one hd TV but not the other so I hit play the recording on the other and it played with a picture. I then tuned to 1008 directly and a picture came on. An hour later I wanted to watch 1007 and it was black on 1 HD TV but had a picture on the other. Does everyone have problems like this with uverse? I had so much trouble with Cox Cable for years. I was hoping this would be better. I am tired of this already. Thank you for your help.

If your problem were picture breaking up the fault could be found and corrected.
The cause of the problem you are having has not been discovered and made public.
If you have the fortitude you could request a new DVR based on the fact that you can demonstrate that the signal is good inside the DVR (because the recording plays), so it must be a faulty DVR.
The bad news is you may need to do this more than once. So, it will require patience.
Once the stars line up, you should be able to enjoy problem free viewing for years to come (unless you attract lightning).

I did call customer service. The wait time was only a few minutes. The put me in contact with tier 2. They suggested another RG might solve the problem. The new one arrived in about 2 days. I installed it and it has worked perfect for the last 8 days. The whole process was quick and professional. I will let you know if the problem returns. Thank you for your suggestions.
