Getting TV in my room

Our house has uverse and we have 1 tv set up. I want to be able to watch tv in my room upstairs. I already have a cat5 cable up their connected to the uverse internet router so i have wired internet up their. I was wondering if i could buy a uverse hd tv box from ebay and connect it to the internet and be able to watch tv in both the family room and my room. Or will i have to get att to do this, if there is a way i can do it myself i would like to know. any advice will be helpful thanks.

The U-verse equipment remains the property of AT&T. You cannot purchase it. The equipment that you see on eBay mostly like is equipment that was not returned when service was canceled (i.e. stolen equipment). It will not work for you. You will need to contact AT&T if you want to add a box to the TV upstairs.

It will cost 7 or 8 dollars to rent the box. and there might be a small install fee.

Even if you had gotten more than one stb in your install you would have to pay the $7 per month rental fee. I think they don't sell the boxes because the technology is so new. On the other hand it is a good thing because we automatically get all of the software/firmware updates and upgrades. If we bought the boxes the time would come when they would stop supporting older boxes. In an attempt to get subs to buy newer ones.

I had DTV and I bought my boxes. The only time I got a newer box with newer features was if one of mine failed and it was replaced by DTV.

Also, on the positive side, if equipment fails it's AT&T's nickel.....not yours as it would be if you owned the box.

Later this year, UV has announced that the XBox 360 could be configured as a STB. If you already own one, that may help you out. They might still charge you for the privilage Kind of like Ticketmaster charging you if you print your own ticket. Backwards thinking, there.....
