This may be specific to a TV rather than U-verse, but I noticed a single thin vertical green line near the right border of my TV screen (Connected to the DVR) earlier tonight. I changed channels and it was present for all 10 or 12 channels I tried (SD and HD). As I got up to try my other TVs a minute or two later, it disappeared--when I checked the other TVs, it was not present on the same channels I tried earlier, but was still gone from the first TV and did not return. The TV is a Sony KDL-46W3000 46" LCD TV, 4 years old. Could this be inherent to the U-verse signal, or is it a warning sign that I'll be TV shopping in the forseeable future?
I will try to determine if it shows up on other TVs if it returns and stays around long enough, but I'm hoping some of the experts might be able to diagnose the problem in the meantime. What else might I need to watch for or try? If it is the TV, is it something worth repairing (if possible)? Thanks for any information.

I've seen that occassionally on my Samsung HD, but only on SD channels. It's a green line at the border of the picture and the side blacked-out space.

I was able to determine just now that the green line seems to be TV specific--it's on my Sony but not on my Samsung--same channel, same time. Even though some shows or commercials have a black border, my screen is set to "Full" and the green line seems to be in a constant position (an inch or two inward from the edge of the screen), not necessarily corresponding to the black border but visible when the picture is full. So it looks like it's a TV problem--a little further searching tells me it might be the LCD control panel, which is apparently a very expensive fix. Still hoping for good news from one of the experts, but not holding my breath.....![]()

Hey docbombay!
Did you ever find the answer to the green line problem?
(I've developed the same problem.)

Never found a definite answer but the most consistent answer is a possible defect in the LCD control panel. Apparently, this would be an expensive repair and the cost would be comparable to or more than a new TV. So I have decided to leave things as they are until such time as the problem worsens and the problem adversely affects viewing. Right now, the nature and degree of the issue have not changed since my original post, and viewing is not impaired other than the initial distraction of the green line (which disappears within a few minutes to a half hour of watching). If it interferes with viewing, I'll just bite the bullet and get a new TV.

Thanks. That sounds like good advice. As you say, it disappears after awhile, so until it gets worse, I'll just ignore it.

I read that we can expect to get about 5 years out of these new-fangled TVs. ![]()

Which is almost the age of the TV in question--hope it goes peacefully in its sleep at a ripe old age!

I hope it is at least 5 years. But it should be more like 10. I have 3 tvs I am using and the newest one is 20 years old. I can't justify replacing one when they were so well.

They're talking about the new flat screens. We had CRT TVs that wouldn't die, but I'll bet we won't see that with this new crop. ![]()

Yes, I figured they were. I'm hoping my plasma will last longer than 5 years. But I will take anything longer than 4.
