I hope that a U-verse customer has this TV and is successful with an HDMI connection without the H1001 error message. I recently moved to U-verse from Dish Network and am very pleased with the TV programming, voice and internet. The bonus is the removal of the satellite dish!
History:
- With DN, my Phillips widescreen tube TV and an HDMI cable, every time I turned on the TV the TV displayed no picture. To receive a picture I had to unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the TV and plug it in again. Changing to component cables solved the problem.
- Now with U-verse my Phillips TV and the same HDMI cable I receive the "Your television cannot support HDCP video over your HD connection. H1001" error. The picture is slower in coming up when initially turning on the TV, the error flashes on the screen and disappears or sometimes remains on with a picture at the same time. Frequently no picture comes up when turning on the TV but this error message. Changing to component cables solved the problem.
Today:
- I am waiting for the delivery of the Sony next week and hope that someone with this make and model TV does not experience this problem or if you have experienced this error do you have a solution using the HDMI cable? I told the salesmen at this store about my problem. This error peaked their interest and both began researching the web. They too are going to try and find out more about this problem. They also mentioned that component cables cannot handle 120hz which the TV is capable of delivering. I research the web this morning and there seems to be truth in that statement. Thoughts, comments? Is this only a problem with a DVD capable of 24 frames per second (e.g.. Blue Ray)? Will this be an issue with HDTV broadcasts?
- I've done some research on the web and here on U-talk. Most of the posts mention experience with the error - some resolved the error but none mention not experiencing this error. If you have not experienced this error with this TV please say so! What make and model HDMI cable are you using?
- Spending $ on a TV incapable of performing as designed utilizing HDMI because of this error is not setting well with me. I plan to hook up the TV and see what happens. If I do receive this error is there a solution using HDMI?
- Have any of you who switched from Dish Network, Direct TV, Comcast or other provider also experienced same problem with HDCP? What did you do to resolve the error other than switching to component cables?
- Has this error been formally acknowledged by AT&T (can someone from AT&T comment?) and is a solution in development? If not, why? If AT&T's competition does not have this problem why wouldn't AT&T resolve this issue?
- If the error persists and depending on the additional research I plan to do on the 120hz and component cable incompatibility I may not purchase this TV.
I know this is a lot for a post, however I hope some great feedback is posted!

If you get the error (and I'm not sure you're going to get it w/the Sony), try unplugging the HDMI cable, press the power button on the DVR/STB until the 3 lights flash, for a soft reboot, after about 5 mins when it's done downloading, plug the HDMI cable back in and this has solved it for many users. ![]()

Here's why the old TV had the error:
It usually is a TV problem if the original model age (when it was originally introduced-not when you bought it) is more than 2 years old. Some manufacturers did not incorporate all the HDMI and/or HDCP specs into their TVs for whatever reason (cost?) and this is causing handshaking/security problems between the TV and DVR/STB making the connection problematic. Generally Hitachi, Panasonic, Phillips, Sony, Thompson and Toshibi TVs should not have problems as they are founding adoptors in the HDMI Org.
The ATT boxes are completely up to specs, but the HDCP regulations cause the DVR/STB to stop the HDMI signal if it failed one of the many handshake/security signals (and there are many, if you looked into-actually constantly during connection).
Didn't want to add this in my first post, but after reading your's again I wanted you to know a little more and why I think the Sony won't have the problem most likely. ![]()

Should the DVR and TV be on when doing this or off?

Both should be on, so that they are both sending signals when you reconnect the HDMI cable. ![]()

That's what I figured, you could try it on it and see, it just might work. ![]()

Is it the KDL-52V5100 52" Bravia V Series? You should have no HDMI problems as it's new and will be completely compatible w/uverse. Don't worry about the 120 hz refresh rate on component or HDMI, it's internal to the TV and has nothing to do w/the signal between the TV and DVR. ![]()
Edit: Once you get it and have any Uverse problems, come back and we'll try to solve them (or point you in the right direction) for you.

Chris, yes the model is KDL-52V5100. Great to hear.
Update on the DVR soft reboot and my older Phillips. TV has been on since my earlier posts. The aspect ratio was set to 1080i. Just returned to the TV and the picture was set to the 4:3 aspect ratio and the HD light was off on the DVR. Somehow the aspect ratio setting changed by itself.

It can do that any time the DVR is rebooted (doesn't always happen-no rhyme or reason) , just go in
menu>options>system settings>aspect ratio and follow the directions to reset it. ![]()
