HDMI Issues with Cisco IPN-330HD (No Sound)

I recently had U-Verse installed at my house and last year had a new HD LCD Tv professionally installed in an extra room.  Now this Tv is installed on a wall and the installation was so perfect that you can not see any cables - - Power, coax, and HDMI.  I have just one HDMI Cable that is connected to this Tv.  I opted to not have any component or analog cables run through the wall like the rest.  I have tried this at&t receiver with an HDMI switch.  There is no sound.  When I plug it directly to the Tv, it works Great.  I can change the cable from the DVD to receiver every time, but that is not what i want.  Does anybody have the same problem and/or a solution to this problem without having to run another cable in addition to the one I have right now.  When i had Dish Network, it worked through the HDMI switch as well as my DVD\Blu-ray player, and My Xbox360. I loved it!  Just wish At&t U-verse does.

Unfortunately you may have to rerun a cable to the tv.  The cause could be a handshake issue, or a bad or faulty hdmi cable.  Unless someone has a solution for you that will allow you to use the cable you have already run, you are going to have to run another cable just to cover all of the possible causes of this issue.  IMHO

That's interesting that you bring this up.  Your HDMI switch wouldn't be manufactured by Gefen, would it?   After suffering through all of the HDMI related handshake issues and reaching the point of self-immolation,  I decided to take the plunge on a Gefen HDMI Detective Plus which is advertised to correct handshake issues.  I received it, hooked it up per the instructions and it does what it's supposed to do.  Except.........   no audio.

I called Gefen's tech support.  Long story short,  they're stumped and have asked me to return the device so they can see if it's defective.  I'm hoping it is because if not,  I'm wondering if there's  some inherent conflict between the UVerse receiver and these devices.   Especially after reading your post.

How do you control your HDMI Switch ?

I have had situations when my TV would automatically go into Mute mode when i switched on my Media Player using Dish Networking Remote and change the TV Input to HDMI. Hopefully, this is not the case for you.

I found a similar issue with the Optical Digital Audio Output on the DVR (http://utalk.att.com/utalk/board/message?board.id=Uverse_TV_Equipment&message.id=22250#M22250), so maybe it affects the HDMI Digital Audio Output as well. Any loss or confusion of the "Handshake" will cause the DVR to shut down all Digital Audio Output. If the TV has a Digital Audio Input (either Optical or RCA), You might try running a cable for that as oppsed to a new (and much larger) HDMI cable to see if it is strictly an audio over HDMI issue. One thing you don't mention is, if the picture drops as well using the switch box. If you are not losing picture, maybe the switch box is not new enough (HDMI Revision) to handle the way that Uverse sends audio over the HDMI connection.

Do you have an option to connect TV thru HDMI to Receiver and then connect DVD and DVR to Receiver also ... I have setup like this and it works perfect with Pioneer Elite receiver which controls everything
