Has anyone experienced this?
I recently replaced the DVR with an ISB7500. The first thing I noticed was a higher volume level requiring me to run my TV and Onkyo receiver about 10 numbers lower. The issue is when you select an SD channel or an On Demand selection, the volume drops back down requiring you to increase the TV back up 10 numbers. Even if you go back to an HD channel, the volume stays low. You can also create this issue if you make any changes to the DVR volume level. Turning the DVR OFF and back ON restores the volume level back to the higher level. The audio connection to the TV is analog.

Not sure what you are asking, but here is what happens. The DVR volume is at 25. As soon as you change it to 24, the volume lowers drastically. Like you went to 15. Turn the DVR OFF and then back ON the volume comes back up to 24. I actually think the lower volume level is the normal. That would put the volume level back to where it was with te older Cisco DVR. I do not use surround sound, but I can create the volume level lowering by going to Menu and Selecting Stereo Or Surround. Whichever happens to not be ON.

Sounds like you are saying any transition in volume causes an initial spike in volume. Sounds like a defect. Need another replacement.
I just remembered another post within the last couple of days - someone saying they had loud volume on turn - on. When he turned it on in the morning it would wake everyone up. If I find it I will post the link here.
Found it right away - http://forums.att.com/t5/Total-Home-DVR/Volume-Iss
Also when I came back to the list there was a new one with the same complaint -

There is an epidemic of defective STBs
