Hi, myself and everyone else who I talk with that has resently switched to U-verse or perviously had U-verse all say and agree to one thing. THAT THERE SHOULD BE A "CLOCK" ON THE CABLE BOX. There is no reason for one not to be there. It is very frustrating and anoying not having one there. This needs to be addressed. All my previously cable services had one. If this is not the right place to voice my concerns please advise on where to.
Thanks.

You can get on that tells you day/date - http://www.4alarmclocks.com/adeldimualcl.html
You can get one that tells you caller ID - http://www.telnote.com/
If you have u-voice with caller ID on the TV maybe at&t would add time to the display & give you the option of leaving it on or display by the push of a remote button.
In the meantime, Target and Walmart and others have a great selection. No reason for you to go without.

One of the really good things I like about my U-verse service is the small footprint of the DVR & STB's. If there was a "clock' display on those devices you'd have to be standing right in front of them to make out the time!!!

I would vote no clock display because that would be one more light on the receiver to keep people awake at night.

Yes, I know some customers complain now about the green link light and the blue HD light. Adding a clock display would just make it worst.

A little electrical tape will take care of the front LEDs. Last time a U-verse tech visited he wondered how my DVR could be working without the link, until I showed him the tape covering the LED, which I had forgotten about.

Would you also place electrical tape over a clock display?

I have clocks in my clock/radio, microwave, oven and car. I have a wrist watch, wall clock and thermostat that all display the time. I can also see the time on the U-verse program guide. I, for one, haven't missed the TWC DVR clock one single bit.

My current Tivo HD DVR does not have a clock.

Sure, if it kept me awake at night. But I can't imagine AT&T spending extra money to get DVRs or STBs with clock displays anyway.

My Charter DVR had the clock display (it was technically optional, you could disable it). My wife said she liked it and mentioned it was gone when we switch to U-verse. However, I've had to cover the link and HD lights on the U-verse DVR so she could sleep, and also endure complaints about the blinking light on the NIC port on the back.
After the first two weeks, I haven't heard a peep out of her about the clock being gone. And she is much happier with the small form factor of the U-verse DVR. When we got the current TV and wall mounted it, figuring out what to keep the humongous Charter DVR on was a major issue.

Based on the the overwhelming response to the OP,I suspect he'll be a little gunshy about posting again on this forum..at least make it a little less subject to attack!!!![]()

Q. Who has attacked him? A: No one. One poster said that if they had a choice, they would vote no, another offered solutions and yet some others said that the clocks on other providers boxes were not visible enough. But no one attacked him.

Absolutely right--while some (including me) have disagreed with the OP, there is no intended attack evident. The purpose of a forum is discussion, and that will involve disagreements. But there is nothing personal in most of those disagreements and the moderators are there to step in if they feel a post is inappropriate. I suppose I should also point out that while I disagree with USMC_1959s perception that the OP is being attacked, I am not attacking him in doing so.

I think that having a clock on the STB isn't a good thing because it's hard to see, so I think that the best thing is to get an Battery powered Atomic clock. It's easier to see and doesn't need to be set unless you change the batteries. As long as there is light, seeing it isn't a problem.

It needs to be flashing 12:00 since I don't know how many VCRs would flash that since noone could figure out how to set them ![]()
