Need help guys I spent hours but cannot figure this on out.
I just bought sony AVR STR-KS2300, I hooked up U-verse Cisco box using HDMI out to SAT IN (HDMI) input of the AVR box. HDMI out from AVR goes to TV.
I get Video but I can not get audio on AVR or TV. I am not concerned about getting audio out of TV at this point.
All I am trying to do is TV play the Video (like right now) but also have an audio out on AVR speakers.
Thanks

Make sure the audio is turned on in the menu for your sony under HDMI menu not familiar with that model but if you want 5.1 you will need an optical cable, for
2ch the HDMI will be sufficient.

All I want is Audio at this point, no preferance.
I have an option called AMP+TV or AMP meaning do I want audio on TV and AMP or just AMP..No luck either way, I don't expect audio on TV anyway since it has DVI.

The problem is that the TV has DVI. I experienced the same problem with a SONY AVR and it mentioned somewhere in the guide that they don't recommend using HDMI -> DVI cable as it may suppress the audio signal from the source components. It strikes me as counter intuitive that DVI on the TV would block the audio from going to the speakers attached to the AVR, but I experienced the same problem. To get audio I had to go to 2-channel analog audio which defeated my purposes, and so I returned the AVR.

Have the exact same Sony AVR STR-KS2300 and have it connected to Motorola STB with Toslink optical for true 5.1 channel audio. Sony KDS-60A3000 HDTV connected to STB and AVR using HDMI. One thing about Sony's is that HDMI will take priority over optical connections so input sound has to be set to optical input. Should have followed oz's suggestion on using an optical cable.
Was going to expand on why your having problems with HDMI>DVI but guess it's all a mute point since you retuned what I consider to be a very good receiver! This receiver even makes the 5.1 audio drops almost not noticable. ![]()
