Does anyone have the component specs for this piece of equipment. I have an U-verse installation scheduled and am planning where I want it located. No, not leaving it up to the installer. That said, need to know the requirements of the RG. i.e. min air space needed for venting around it as I'm sure it generates some heat, size specs, etc.
Thanks,
Scott

scroll down and look under product info..You will be able to download a .pdf of the specs for the gateway. Someone else here may have something different or better so keep a look out on that.

Wow, thanks everybody. As I suspected, I will have to rethink my location as I don't think the place I had in mind will provide enough circulation.
Cheers!!

IMHO the more air that can move around the RG....the better. Ours stands vertically on a desk top in our computer room with no other equipment closer than 12 inches. Even so, after 14 months of use the part of the circuit devoted to wireless fried. The whole RG was replaced. So...as I said...I recommend plenty of space around it.
Thought the installers on my U-verse equipment were very good, but now think they took a shortcut. Didn't have room on my computer desk for the RG so requested it be placed near TV. They put in on it's side on top of STB on bottom shelf of TV stand. After just a couple days could not take all the blinking lights while watching TV. Moved the RG back behind the STB and noticed tremendous amount of heat between the two. Had blocked off air to STB and 1 side of RG by stacking. Had asked them for the cheapo RG stand in case I set on side end and they said I should not need it the way it is installed. RG is still on it's side. Sounds like it needs to be set in a stand for proper air circulation to both sides?

If you by chance happen to have the box to the RG stored away somewhere, there should be the little gray plastic stand for vertical operation inside. The RG doesn't put out alot of heat, but it has to get rid of it. Putting it on the top of the STB was a dumb move, the STB needs circulation even more, many times when they get too warm that fan will come on and can make alot of noise (some people also put a little mat fan under the DVR/STB for added ciculation). My RG sits all by itself on a table 10' from the DVR, which I've raised up about an inch and immediately stopped a slight fan whine on the hottest days, that sits on my DVD burner that is good now for the clock.![]()

Chris,
Installers took all the boxes with them which must have included the little gray RG stand. Maybe I will call U-verse and have them send me one.
Remember installing extra little fans in back of stereo stands for air circulation. I am unfamiliar with mat fans but sounds like a good idea. Have any tips where I can see one and purchase online?
Thanks!

As an interesting point of reference my RG 3800HGV-B Gateway is reporting Hardware Version: 2700-100531-006, which indicates it is based on the 2Wire 2700 platform. I also noticed on my original and the replacement that at the lable area there is overspray that seems to indicate that there may be reuse of hardware or just poor build / painting sequence.

You don't want to put it too near a computer; I tried putting mine right next to a computer and got horrendous numbers of errors. But it's fine at about 2 feet away. A tech told me it's also not good to have it close to a monitor or speakers, but mine is only a couple inches from both with no problems.
