Same recorded show freezes then skips

I record Castle every Monday night at 10pm in HD on ABC.

For the last 3 or 4 weeks, the recordings always freeze and then it forwards to a point int the show about a minute later, leaving out a gap in the show. I'm pretty sure it's happening at the same time also.

Why would this only happen on this one show every week when being recorded? This doesn't happen with any other show.

Same here. I thought I was the only one with this problem. Tonight during the last 5 minutes, a screen with a picture of a sateliite dish saying the provider was experiencing technical difficulties popped up. That was new, it usually just skips. So I don't know if this issue with Uverse or with ABC?

I'm recording another HD show (Hawaii Five-O) at the same time, but it doesn't have any problems with playback.

I also recall having the same problem with Nikita on the CW (HD) channel as well, but that was very sporadic. It does this with Castle for the past couple of weeks.

Sounds like it could be your local office's problem with inserting your OTA channel's signals onto the distribution system. Since you mention the repeat occurrences on OTA feeds rather than this coming from national channels like A&E, HGTV, MTV, etc., it's sounding like that's where the problems are coming from. The signal coming from the national downlink center doesn't seem to be part of the issue.

I record just about everything I watch and for the most part the recorded program plays back fine.

For at least the last two weeks there have been problems with recordings of the series Castle. The recording from 1/16/2012 had so many pauses, skips and audio drop outs it is just about unwatchable. It seems like last week there was a bit of a problem but not quite as bad.

I am watching the 1/16/2012 program through OnDemand and there are no problems but it is in SD. The problems I am having are all with the HD version.

Again, I can't recall another program with these problems.

Anyone else having these problems? Anyone else having a problem recording Castle only? Any sugestions on a solution?

The post from jbdet313 about "Phenomenon explained here" just goes back to the start of this thread. Was there another conversation about this?

It's been happening to me as well. I still have the recordings of Castle on the DVR; and the playback freezes and then starts back up after skiping about 30 seconds.

When it first happened to me (I didn't keep records on which shows and details), I called for tech support and they sent me a new DVR (a 2250). This solved a long term problem with the remote being unresponsive until my LCD warmed up; so I'm happy with the replacement, but the skipping problem is still here with the new box.

If there is info that points to something other than being a U-verse problem, then I don't need to call support.

The reason there's the circular reference is because of the way this board is operated. My response was to someone who started a separate thread, and we already had this one going. The Modz do this funky thing where threads get merged without rhyme or reason ---- won't go into that, it's not my board.

Now as to this recurring problem, it must be something that's happening from the national downlink center and the encoding that's going out from there. I've never heard of this thing going on, on ONE specific show, week after week. The main reason I say that, is because the broadcast/OTA feeds should just be coming from the local VHOs and not from the downlink center (as CNN, TBS, ESPN would), with signals only passing through to do local Spotlight ad inserts. A new one for the "what not to do when running a pay TV operation" book.

I don't normally watch Castle or other ABC stuff, so I'm going to guinea-pig this myself, and DVR some ABC stuff over the next couple days, around the same times. I'll do both SD and HD, and we'll see what happens.

Metro Detroit has no problem w/Castle in HD, it has recorded/watched perfectly w/no skips, pauses etc, from the Livonia VHO.

Didn't think so, Chris, but I'm gonna sacrifice anyways just to see. What I'm interested in finding out is if the others in same time period get affected on Sun and Tues. Could it be something as dumb as the 10:01pm start time? Laff if you want, but with this Uverse, anything's possible.

Im in Connecticut.. Same problem.. recording stuff in hd and always skips.. standard def works fine..

Is this a problem with all of your HD recordings? Do you have the same problem whether the recordings are played on the DVR are one of the STB's?

Has anyone figured what's been causing this issue? My U-Verse recordings also skip ONLY with Castle at 10:01 PM. I am also located in the San Francisco Bay Area..

I have a feeling that there is some local glitch... Any ideas on how to test the theory?

I'm also in San Francisco...South San Francisco to be exact. It's been happening the last couple of weeks, but I might attribute it to the fact that I'm recording 2 other HD shows as well and I may be taxing my bandwidth? Are you recording other shows as well? I haven't checked yesterday's episode yet.

In Demand works fine, but one, you can't see the most recent episode until later in the week and two, it's not available in HD unless I'm in the wrong area.

Only NBC does not have an HD OnDemand. However, there are some shows that only show up in SD. I don't watch Castle so I have haven't checked.
