Did a search, but could not find the answer to my question. Here is my problem. It's late at night, and I'm watching a recording. I fall sleep. The recording eventually ends and the uverse menu comes up asking if you want to replay, delete, etc.... Because I'm asleep, this menu stays up for literally hours until discovered the next morning.
I'm scared to death my 65" plasma will be ruined. Why does the receiver software not have a screen saver that kicks in after the menu has been up for a while? Dish Network had this. I'm to scared to watch a recording when I'm sleepy! Has this been addressed already. What does AT&T say? ....and no, I will not drink a lot of coffee if I'm watching a recording late at night...

Use your TV's power off timer.

Are you sure this is what happens? In that scenario, after a few minutes of no response to the menu items, the recordings should being to play again from the beginning.

Doesn't do that here, the screen saver comes up, any button push brings the erase screen back up then. ![]()
Edit: Stayed on erase screen for about 3 mins, then went to big DVR screen for 1 minute, then screensaver came up, so no possible burn-in on a plasma.

I am absolutely positive it is happening as I have fallen asleep during recording twice. The first time the recording ended around 1am. I woke up at 4am and the menu screen is showing. It happened again yesterday where the recording ended around 2am, and my wife turned it off around 6 am! I thought the burned in image was permanent, but it eventually went away after the plasma screen cooled off. Not sure if permanent damage would occur after say 8 hours or longer.
So you guys are letting the dvr recording end normally and the menu screen goes away on it's own? What should I do now? I just tested a recording, letting it end normally. The screen stays at the menu indefinitely. Should I call AT&T?

Since reading your post this morning, I tried several times to duplicate what you reported. Sometimes the recording started to replay on it's own after several minutes. Other times, the DVR screen appeared followed by the screen saver. At no time did the menu remain on the screen for more than a few minutes. Either the recording started to replay or the screen saver appeared.

What do you suggest I do? I am now testing on a different TV/receiver and fast forwarded a recording until near the end. I then let it play and end normally. It is currently on the "Play-Keep until-Erase-Series info" menu. Do you have a different receiver or firmware perhaps?

Probably no different from your equipment. I have noticed the behavior that I reported on both the DVR and STB since the THDVR Phase 2 Update which was rolled out back in June 2009.

My edit above was a real time ending of a recording and I did nothing to see what it would do.
I'd suggest you do a hard reboot by unplug/plug in power after 30 seconds. This will fix many DVR problems, let us know if it worked, good luck. ![]()

Do you have the largest hard drive DVR? You're TV2client is an earlier version than my 1216 DVR (your STB is same as my DVR) and could be the problem. Suppossedly ATT is getting a fix from MS for those units. ![]()

After I finish a recording and then do nothing, it will eventuall start the show over from the beginning. My guess is it's doing this for you too but you just happen to wake up when the box is at the erase screen. In other words, while you were asleep for the last few hours, the show finished, sat at the erase screen for a few minutes, started over, played through the whole show again, sat at the erase screen for a few minutes, started over and kept doing this till you woke up right when it was on the erase screen. Just a guess.

slobeavis,
I have tested it today (while awake), waiting for the screen to change. It never does.

1. Look in your plasma TV's menus for the HDMI CEC setting. This is a setting that allows communication of different devices over the HDMI cable. The CEC setting goes by many different names depending on the TV's manufacturer, so you might need to hunt around for it in the TV's menus.
2. Switch from HDMI to component cables (Y-Pb-Pr).
The HDMI CEC chatter from the TV might be preventing the U-Verse receiver from entering the screen saver mode.
