I have a Yamaha Surround Sound System.  I am not sure it would be the cheapest system that you could buy, but it is by far not the most expensive.  I had this system when I had DishNetwork and it worked fine.  Then when I got Uverse it has worked just fine also.

Any surround system will work with Uverse.  Go to Best Buy and look at their Insignia brand.  That's pretty cheap.

I have a Sony that works very well but it is in the mid-price range.

Would try to make sure you buy one with a HDMI or optical audio input so you can receive true 5.1 Dolby Digital audio from U-verse. It does not have to be expensive to have one of these inputs but you will need to look closely at the specs to make sure it has at least one. HDMI is preferred since it carries both video and 5.1 audio with the new U-verse upgrade.

If you can find a way to afford a little more I have found the mid range equipment can save you money in the long run. Unless you are always buying the latest thing something that lasts ten or more years is cheaper then something that fails in two years or you replace it because it is not flexible enough  for your needs in the future. Sometimes you just have to buy what you can at the time. Good Luck.
