We have the same problem. The backup isn't a Belken - I guess we're way at the end of the line and have a different backup - it's white. We just had uverse installed on Thursday and noticed the problem that night. I called and spoke with several people who were unable to help me. Finally, I called again and was able to get someone who realized that our back up was NOT a Belken (although, I had told all of the other reps that it was not, they kept giving me different numbers to Belken). They had a service guy come out yesterday to replace the battery.
Once unplugged, the back up will not beep for several hours, but then begins to beep every 5-20 minutes for anywhere from a second to several seconds. The new back up has the same issue. I've plugged a digital clock into the same outlet and it never loses power, nor does a light blink when plugged in at the same time as the back up is beeping. Also, because it's consistenly fine for several hours after being plugged back in, I don't think it's a problem with our power or outlet.
The beeping keeps us up at night so we have to unplug the battery each night and plug it back in each morning - not a huge problem, but a pain considering it's in the basement and is just one more thing we have to do each night and morning. I'm kind of at the end of my rope. After spending 3 hours on the phone with ATT on Friday, waiting until Sunday for someone to come out and have the problem continue, I'm going to give them one more shot to figure it out. We had uverse in our old house and loved it, but I might put up with dish just to avoid this problem.
