Uverse told me that the Motorola stb they have cannot support any universal remotes at the time. Huh? I can't find a code that will work with it anywhere. I just want to use my own universal remote to control the Motorola stb. Any thoughts? Thanks!
It works superbly with my Harmony remote.

Harmony 880 and my new Harmony One work perfectly
(as you can gather from the responses - ditch your current POS universal*no offense* and get a Harmony) Trust me you will NEVER look at any other Universal controller the same again.

Echoing the others, my Harmony One works like a champ.
My old reliable Home Theater Master MX-500 is a very nice remote with lot's of great functionality, but I just could not get it to work with the Uverse boxes. When I tried learning from the Moto remote, the MX-500 claimed it was successfully learning each key, but nothing would work for me when I tried using it.
The Harmony One is a little pricey, but it's also very nice and works very well with the Moto boxes using the default profile. I only had to program three custom buttons (Back, Interactive, & Recorded Programming).

When you say custom do you mean a soft key(screen key) or you actually had to learn the infor from the Uverse remote?
On both of mie, I just chose those in the setup and uplaoded to the remote. No learning needed. I have mine set for recorded, back, VOD, and Ubar

No, I didn't have to learn any codes... it's just that those functions were not mapped in the default profile for the VIP1216. I mapped the Back function to the unused down arrow (just above the transport controls). I mapped the other two to the touch screen.

Hrmmm... I wonder why mine refused to work. I've had it for 5 or 6 years so maybe it's an older generation than yours (I know they came out with a newer version that had improved buttons).
I looked around to see if anyone else was having the problem and while I didn't notice anyone with an MX-500 posting about issues, there were several other universal remotes having problems. The concensus was that the VIP12xx boxes had some kind of funky IR codes that are difficult for some remotes to learn or transmit. I didn't look much further than that as I had a gift card and some coupons for Best Buy and I just splurged for the Harmony One. I'll probably give the MX-500 to someone in my family to use as it would be a shame for such a great remote to just gather dust.

I wish DavidK had mentioned just exactly what he did to get his MX-500 to work with U-Verse - did he 'learn' the commands, or select some 3 digit code that magically worked? Because most of the people I've seen online are doing just what I'm doing - looking for HOW to get the MX-500 to work with U-Verse, and just saying "works fine" doesn't explain anything about HOW it was done.

Okay, since I griped about DavidK not explaining something, I should also mention that I just found this additional posting of his:
"I recently bought a Home Theater Master MX-500 remote and it was able to learn all of the functions from the AT&T remote. It took me about three attempts to get the power button to work which might have had something to do with having both my TV and STB power programmed together. I have had no problems with this IR remote controlling every function in my home theater including x10 controls on my lamp. "
I know I tried multiple times to learn with my MX-500, but I reckon I'll have to give it yet another few tries.
