I have been having problems with the "down volume" control button for sometime now. It does not always work and I don't think it's the batteries. All the other buttons work ok but with the down volume button I need to press very hard and then it does not always work. Eventually after pressing it down hard several times it will work. I talked to Uverse help line and they said put in a new battery. It's not the battery. Does anyone know if I can use the controler that came with the TV? If not where can I get a new Uverse Controler?
Thanks
steven

Shouldn't they just replace it, or do you actually have to buy one if it stops working?

Mash down on it and slide it side to side and back and forth. Probably just the contact pad beneath the button. If you feel adventurous you can pop the remote open. There is a single tiny allen screw beneath the batteries you will need to remove first, then use your fingernail or small flat screwdriver to pry the top and bottom apart. Inside you will find a circuit board and a rubber mat that has all the buttons on it. On the circuit board you will see what looks like little black spirals coresponding to the location of the buttons. Locate the little spiral corresponding to the down volume button and use an eraser (the white ink erasers works best for this) to clean it by rubbing it firmly enough to see some of the eraser coming off, then dust off the board so none of the eraser dust is left behind. The whole rubber button mat can be cleaned under hot tap water and mild detergent with an old toothbrush. This should fix you right up.

And what the heck. If you have to buy a new one anyway, you might as well try to fix the one you have.

I can't figure out how to do this. Using a screwdriver just marks up the outside. Can you be more specific?

You want to concentrate at the division between the silver top and the black bottom and you want to use a very small flat screwdriver slightly larger than what you would find in an eyeglass repair kit. The best size are the ones you get at trade shows or from harware vendors that clip on your pocket. You may have to drag it along that seam with considerable pressure to get it started.
Remember to remove the screw under the batteries first, and be careful not to slip and jab yourself with the screwdriver.

Have received many of them over the years, but never used them because the little screwdrivers kept poking hole in the bottoms. ![]()
