I have a Marantz NR1501 receiver connected to my Uverse DVR by HDMI. Sometimes when I fast forward, or skip ahead the sound stops working and a very loud *shhh shhh shhh shhh* noise deafens everyone in the room. The only way to fix it is to turn off the receiver and start it up again.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know of any fixes?
Thanks.

You get that noise through your audio receiver? I know there have been handshake issues between the stb and the tv when connected by hdmi. But I haven't heard of anything like what you described.

That's a failure of your receiver to regain synchronization with the digital audio stream.
Call Marantz and see if they have a firmware update available for your Marantz receiver.
An alternative might be to switch the U-Verse receiver to Stereo instead of Surround. Stereo mode uses PCM, while Surround mode uses Dolby Digital. Your receiver may have problems with the DD stream but not the PCM stream.

Hmmm. Similar problem here. My receiver doesn't make any noises like what you describe. What does happen when I fast forward is the Uverse Box will display a speaker icon in the upper right corner of the TV screen with a red slash over it, signifying that the sound has been muted. I was scratching my head for months wondering why I kept losing sound.
Luckily, I just stumbled upon a fix for this, and maybe this will help you as well.
Apparently, some of the Uverse boxes have their own volume controls. Unfortunately, once you program the remote to work with your TV, those volume controls are lost so the remote can adjust the TV volume (except in freak instances as this when fast forwarding somehow tells the receiver to mute).
The fix is to manually un-assign the TV volume controls to the AT&T mode button, thus setting volume back to the Uverse box instead of the TV. Here's how:
Press and hold down the AT&T and OK buttons together until the mode buttons flash.
Enter code 955
Press Enter
Now try the volume/mute buttons to see if it worked. You should see the speaker icon in the upper right corner of the TV screen, hopefully different than the on screen display from adjusting the TV volume controls. Now, if the box was accidently muted, you can unmute it.
To change this setting back:
Press and hold down the AT&T and OK buttons together until the mode buttons flash.
Enter code 955
Press the mode key of the device you'd like to control volume (most likely TV or AUX if you have a stereo receiver programmed into the remote)
Press Enter
Good luck! Hope this helps!
