just got my VIP-2250 to replace a VIP-1225
swapped STB/DVR and it performs the software update and came up, all appears to be ok
but when I went into the Menu > Recordings submenu, it seems that the STB receiver does not recognized that there is a DVR.
Under Recordings > Recording space, instead of a bar showing recording space available, it says
"Recording space information is not available on this receiver. Please check your DVR receiver"
Under Menu > Recordings > By date, instead of telling me that there is no recordings in the list, it says:
"The Recordings list is unavailable. Make sure this TV receiver and the DVR receiver are connected to the network."
Same mesage above if I am looking at the Menu > Recordings > By title
Also currently watching a TV program, so pressed the red "Record" button on the remote, but recording does not start. If I press "Pause" button on remote, it says:
"Pause is not available. The DVR is currently unplugged or is restarting"
Similar message if I press 'Forward' or 'Reply' key.
I recall when DVR is recording, on the STB/DVR a red light (and labeled "RECORD") would light up. Right now I don't see the red light on, but when I press the "RECORD" button on my remote again, it says "This program is already recording"
so what is going on here? Think DVR is not working at all on this VIP-2250.
I had already performed a hard reset earlier (press Power + OK + down arrow all at the same time and wait 10 sec, then release Power while still holding the other 2 keys until the gear icon appears) but that did not help.
thanks

The box needs to be activated as a DVR. Call Technical Support and speak to a Tier 2 agent. I had a similiar issue when I got my new DVR.

ok, I just unplugged the power to the VIP-2250, wait about 10 sec, then plug power back in
when the box came back I am now able to see valid info under the Recordings sub menus, so the DVR portion of the VIP-2250 is now working properly

FWIW, I had this exact problem when I got my vip2250. I had to talk to Tier 2, and the explanation was that for some reason the old vip1225 was still listed as the DVR, so I now had two DVR's on my profile and they were conflicting. The vip2250 was still looking for the vip1225 to be on the network serving as the DVR.
In any case, before calling Tier 2, I did unplug my DVR for a few minutes and reboot a few times and this did not fix the issue. AT&T had to modify my profile and reboot my DVR remotely. This finally fixed the issue.

I too had this issue. Tier 1 does not have access to correct these settings so ask for a Tier 2. It took the Tier 2 about 30 minutes to fix the issue. He almost gave up and was going to send me another vip2250, but after three restarts of the box, the DVR/HDD functionality finally kicked in.
I upgraded from the vip1225 today.

I recently received a 2250 after my older DVR crashed. Since I received it I have also gotten the same message. The first night I called I was told that the DVR had not been "toggled." After this was done it began to work properly, for a day or so. Then I noticed the other receivers did not have the DVR programs listed that the 2250 had recorded. The 2250 was working, but I could not view DVR'ed shows from the other receivers. I called techinical support and I was told to reboot and this worked. The next day I noticed the 2250 DVR wasn't functioning so I went ahead and did the reboot and I called to complain. I was told that the DVR was not being recognized by the system. I mentioned to them that I knew this DVR model was having problems from forum postings I had seen and the technician acknowleged this and said they would be getting better models soon. I was also told that the gateway/modem I have was not compatible with the DVR and they would send me a new one. The problem still continues and I am still rebooting. I am seriously considering switching to Time Warner.

mine was the same issue but a different new receiver...my new receiver (delivered 12-20-11) is the Cisco ISB7500...Shannel at Technical Support (Tier 1) was able to correct it on her end in about 5 minutes...it was worth the additional half hour wait in the que...![]()
Thus far, this new receiver has also fixed my 4 year battle with no Surround Sound in Digital Audio Output (had to be satisfied with Stereo...I wasn't)

I had this same issue when I just now replaced my corrupt VIP-1225 with a new VIP-2250. Basically what I did was unplug all my TV receivers and DVR. Then went into the gateway settings, LAN tab and clicked the Clear List button where it displays the devices. The old DVR was still showing up in the list of devices even though it was disconnected. The RG will also reboot when you clear the list. Then plugged in the new DVR and allowed it to come back up. Plugged in the secondary receiver and it connects to the new DVR to let me pause and view recordings list. Everything working good.

No problem. I'm not sure why they don't just put those instructions in the replacement DVR box. Maybe they don't trust the users to go into the gateway and do this.

Liquidsilvermx5,
This may sound dumb but how do I get to the gateway to carry this task out?

In other words, what are the steps I need to take to do what you're recommending. I'm afraid I'm not tech savvy enough to know. Thanks.

Got this working when I first got this receiver. Worked fine for a few days. Now is not recording the scheduled recordings! Says they are scheduled but does not record them!

Try unplugging the DVR for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

What we need to do here is unplug the cable box, then plug it back in.Sanjay (***)Immediately after plugging it back in, hold down the OK and Down arrows located on the front of the boxSanjay (***)Allow it to load all the way through. If you see a picture of a sprocket on the TV screen you can release your hold on the ok and down arrows.Sanjay (***)let it load once and then try to record if it doesn't work try the steps again.Sanjay (***)ideally after 3 Factory resets the conflict should clear.{edited out personally identfying information}
People need to be aware that this procedure you've posted is called a Disaster Recovery Reset. This procedure can clear up many problems with the DVR that nothing else will fix, but it also erases all recordings that are currently on the DVR. People need to know that before they do it. This procedure should not be used except as a last resort when nothing else has worked.
