My phone has never worked during a power outage and I'm on chat with someone now and she doesn't know and I can't talk to AT&T on the phone. I don't think that they gave me one. Can anyone give me a straight answer??? The one I'm on chat with says it's on the back of the modem. The modem is a 2wire. I don't see a battery, just a modem. She claims it's a Belkin....?????

Typically the Belkin battery back up is a separate unit plugged into the wall electrical receptacle close to the modem. It looks like the middle photo in the below link and has to have AC power.

If you have U-verse Voice they were required to install one for emergency purposes (911, etc..).
If you can't find it try tracing your phone line from the modem and see where the phone line is plugged in. Sometimes they will place the battery backup unit in the basement, or garage, from where the phone line comes into the house but don't believe this is a common practice.
Good luck.

My BBU (Battery Back Up) is pretty big...the same size as, if not larger than, the RG. And it should be near the RG.
Unless they've changed things, the BBU is separate from the RG.

What type of phones do you have? A phone that is plugged into an electrical outlet will not work even if you have a battery backup. You would need to plug a handset directly into the RG in order for it to work during a power outage and the 2Wires RG is running on the backup battery.

The power cord running from the BBU to the RG is not that long so the BBU should be fairly close by. Now I do recall reading a post sometime back where the tech forgot to install the BBU. If you have Uverse Voice the BBU is included in the install.

The only difference would be if you have an iNID installed in your house. The battery backup is integrated into the inside power supply unit. That is normally installed in the garage. It will be a white box with the AT&T logo on it. If you are not an iNID customer the battery backup is what other posters have shown on here and should be next/close to the RG itself. If you do not have either please let me know.

Besides what others have said and shown (the BBU is a black or gray unit about the size of the gateway aka modem), if you have a BBU then the RG is plugged into the BBU, not the wall outlet directly.

My battery back up is sitting next to my desk. My RG is plugged into it.

Are you using a cordless phone or a hardwired phone? Unless you have a backup power source for the base of your cordless phone, it won't work during a power outage.
