Hi.
I have had u-400 since June 2007. I see in their latest mail pieces they are offering DVR's with increased DVR storage capacity to U-450 and HD customers that are NEW.
Does anyone know if I can call anyone at any deparment at att and request the larger DVR since I am a U-400 customer with HD Technology fee?
Thanks.

I think your DVR has to broke/defective before they can replace it.

You can only get the larger DVR if....
1) Your current DVR is defective and the tech that comes out to fix it has one available
OR
2) You currently have or are signing up for HD and the tech has one on the truck
However, do not bank on the tech having one on the truck because he or she only gets a few of these boxes to distribute per day and if you are one their last appointments you will be S.O.L

Reports are coming in that the only thing techs have are the larger hard drive units and STBs on their trucks. Which makes absolutely sense, why have 3 different choices when the larger hard drive and STB are all he has to carry and the garage has to stock. ![]()

Maybe, but my experience with the AT&T wireless guys has not been too good. When I purchased my iPhone I first went into the AT&T store and after spending about 30min setting things up they told me there was a couple week wait to get the phone. I called the Apple store, no wait, in/out with the phone and service in 15min. I think they would be clueless about UVerse.
The one thing I worry about with this service is that new hardware for things like increased hard drive size, VDSL2 support ect. and AT&Ts inability to easily get it to customers means that older customers will not be upgraded quickly and new customers who have yet to invest heavily in the system get the benefits quicker.
As an aside all of these tech stores should look at Apple as a model of how to do customer based service. If you need to purchase you can be in/out fast everything is electronic, if you need a tech person you get an appt with the Genius and they post exactly where you are at in the queue. Really impresses me everytime I need to go in.

Alas, I called and the shuffled me around a bit, but in the end, they said I need to be a new customer to get the bigger DVR storage.
It seems like a headache to go through the process of disconnecting service and then calling back for 'new' service, but I could really use the DVR space...I have 4 TV's and 6 kids and the thing fills up quick with all those daily shows the kids record. I have '!" symbols all over my DVR list of things I have not had a chance to see...a larger DVR would be nice.

Well....first RE the AT&T stores.....we've always received good and courteous service from them and, in fact, we ordered our UV service at one of those local stores.
We had a prem tech in the neighborhood a few weeks ago. HE ASKED me if I'd like a new DVR with the larger hard drive. But, doggone it, we had just returned from a two week long trip and my wife had a bunch of her programs recorded for delayed viewing. She was not agreeable to losing them so I had to pass up the chance.![]()

I got mine swapped out only because in the process of troubleshooting an issue I had, the tech first wanted to swap the DVR out. When I asked him if he had any of the 1225's in his truck he said 'oh yeah, I'm doing all HD installs with them, now'. In fact, he said that's all he had. I'm guessing they don't get many non-HD installs, these days.
Even if someone does NOT want the HD service, they'll still get an HD box.
It appears AT&T has two boxes.
1) HD. This is what people get as additional boxes, or if they have one box and the U-100 or Family package. If they have the U-100 or Family package and want a DVR, they can get one at an additional price.
2) HD-DVR. Larger size only.
This makes total sense.

If they added usb drive support, this would not be an issue....
Does anyone know what size the larger drives are? I was installed one week ago and I was extremely happy to get the Cisco/SA IPN4320 dvr with a 320gb drive. I heard there may be some Motorola dvrs with larger drives? Do they have the same menu and interface?

The larger Moto is only 240G or 260G, actually smaller than the larger Cisco you got and all interfaces and operations are exactly the same. ![]()

Speaking of incentives, they seem to keep taking them away, which bums me out. Like I went to ad bundled billing for my iPhone to my u-verse bill, and they took away my $10 bundle discount (without telling me they would do so. Beware to those looking to make changes. They will remove the grandathered pricing) for TV and internet service. I should still have that grandfathered. And then I made another change to my service, but did not do anything about the boxes, and then they started charging me the $7 per box...so I received a $24 increase without even making changes that should affect those rates....not very customer friendly....at the least they should give me a larger DVR, especially for customers that have been there since day 1.
Everyone that was paying $5 for additional STB, started paying $7 on thir first bill after 2/1/09. This was wildly talked about here and on uverseusers.com and ATT had it posted online which is what started the discussion. If you called in many times they warned about the price change. Also if you came here more often, you'd see that if you make changes you can lose discounts of any kind in the 'billing' section. So, these two things are well known to those of us here. ![]()

Except very few of their Geniuses have a CLUE about anything computer-related, and by that I mean Macs. The way they operate the store is great though.![]()
