An old video, but cool to see it in action.

Does anyone have any more current info on this, or links to info that is more recent.  The way they were talking in the end of this video is that you would have to buy an XBOX360 that is IPTV enabled.  Are they not going to offer a software download to existing XBOX360 owners, or is that even possible.

I think it is just going to be a software upgrade, possibly included in the next dashboard upgrade.

It wouldn't make sense to come out with an IPTV SKU as there shouldn't be any hardware changes needed to watch IPTV.

Then again, it seems Microsoft is 'SKU' happy right now, with the core, premium, elite, and now the Halo3 editition coming out...

My son has the Halo3 pre-order with the mini-helmet coming (bet that will be delayed from Sept.)?  I'm betting you have your pre-order, too?

Yes I do, I have the Legendary on pre-order as well.  I hope they don't delay it from the 25, otherwise, tons of fans won't be too happy...

I had not heard about a Halo3 machine!  Are you serious?

I was just happy that my son's recent purchase had a defect, and when we exchanged it (premium for premium), the new one has the HDMI port on it like elite!

For the dashboard, does it need to stay hooked to the Ethernet?  (I'm not the gamer, remember?  I am just the keeper of the home LAN!)

Dashboard updates will take place automatically through the network if it is plugged into one, regardless if there is actually a Live account on there.

That makes a total of 4 SKUs so far.  The core, the Premium (now just called the Xbox 360), the Elite, and the Halo3 one.  I have heard the Halo3 one is a limited time deal though, but I don't think it is confirmed...yet.  As cool as the Halo3 SKU sounds, it is really just a premium console with a HDMI port that has a nice paint job.  It doesn't even come with Halo3!

Thanks for the pic, I don't think that is something my son would be interested in.  Too funny with no Halo3 included!  And I see it's pre-order, so chances are the new game will be out before the machine!

I want to see about getting him hooked up through the wall with the Ethernet from the RG; maybe I can ask them to just push another piece through while they're here?  I'll buy the cable, of course.

I think Microsoft is SKU crazy. Any little thing is now being released with a new SKU. Even with Windows Vista, they divided up all the features between different versions. I can understand if they made one for home users and one for businessmen, but making people pay $50 more to just for aero is a rip off. I hope that they feel generous enough to at least give the IPTV software for the Xbox free.

Microsoft says it isn't in the Fall update.  It sounds like from what they said, we have to either rent 'IPTV 360's' from our service provider or get the IPTV software from our service provider.

I know there is a lot of speculation about this and how it will be deployed.  But I want to go on record saying that if they force a 360 rental and not provide the software to existing 360 owners, that will be a very bad thing.  There are a lot of us that already own a 360, in my case an Elite.  It's hard to believe that if they offer this for 360's in some fashion, that they would punish the existing owners.

I'm ready for some official ATT answers!

IPTV Software included in the Xbox update last night.  But still requires ATT to flip the switch to make it work......  Waiting on them is going to be painful.......

Question is, will they charge for the extra signal/box?

i.e. 3 free boxes right, 4th one would be $5 a month,  Having X360 not qualify as box rental? or is it signal?

They can't charge you for equipment that you own.  The signal is already there so they can't charge you extra for that either.  All the software does is the same thing your current DVR does, but for the XBOX to work, I'm assuming they have to put something in thier management system for the box to actually work.. IE a mac address or something.  Whatever they do to authorize the boxes.

Exactally, they can't charge you for having the X-box, but would a monthy charge be applicpable for trying to get the "IP" for your box to use TV on it?

Not that' it's a big deal to me, just a curiosity.

The Fall Update came out today and sho'nuff it states IPTV is ready but dependent on the providers...I hope this comes out soon! Cuz if i'm not playing vid games I am watching TV

So what is it that needs to be enabled by ATT for this to work. If you can use a TiVO, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to use the Xbox free of charge. It's just receiving a signal just like all the other Set Top Boxes. The only box that is registered to your account as far as them knowing if it is connected and in use is the DVR and the RG. So you should be able to use whatever you want, including media center PC's, to receive the IPTV signal.

Not necessarily.  Whenever you plug in a new STB, T2 has to link it's GUID to your account, or at least that is what I understand.
