I just got uverse installed on Tuesday. Yesterday it froze and on the reboot it would go past the blue boot screen. A tech came out today and replace the reciever and gateway.
So far today no freezing on either TV.
I tihnk the DVR unit is the one on the main floor and the nonDVR is in the basement.
one the unit I think is the DVR, if I hit pause on live TV it just brings up the slider bar to show how far into the show I am. It doesn't pause. If I hit record a message pops up recording. But when I check the recorded shows its not listed under by date to it is under schedule with a status of "will record" even though the show is on now.

Unplug both of the U-verse boxes for 30 seconds and then plug them back in. See if that resolves the issues.

If it's a new installation it may not have gotten the update yet for phase 3. I'm not sure how to force an update down, but I'm guessing that it will recieve the update soon.

Let us know what happened after you did the hard reboot that TG suggested.

unplugged both units. Powered on the DVR first let it fully power on. no change.
Powered on the second box, fully booted up. No change on the DVR.
I can't do any of the DVR features. record, pause, skip back, etc

Which U-verse TV package do you have?

Call ts and have the csr do a test on your service. Let them know you have already rebooted the stbs and ask them to try doing a reset of your service.

Try to force the Phase 3 update
To do this go to that main DVR and do the follwoing
On the DVR STB (While powered on) hold down the power button, OK button, and Down Button on thefront of the DVR
The Link, HD, and Record Buttons will light up. Let go of the Power Button, while still holding the other 2.
The box will reset and on teh screen you should see a gear with a progress bar. Let the other 2 buttons go.
Try using DVR functions afterwards
