Check your TV options such as auto brightness that may affect the IR signal.
As a test try covering the TV screen with a sheet. Also, try hiding the STB from the screen or ambient lighting.

the remote control for uverse works up to about 7 pm then has issues. Its a new Vizeo hdtv set used 1433 as code and got the 3 flashes after 7pm the guide, pause fast forward etc all the dvr functions stop working or work part time what might be the cause ?
If it's an LCD TV check for these settings on your advanced settings on the menu: Dynamic Contrast, Auto or Ambient Brightness, Energy/Power Saver, Intelligent Sensor or Auto Iris.
If you have any of them or similar ones try turning them 'off' one by one until you find the culprit, then turn the non-offending ones back on to double check. All of these can cause Uverse remote problems w/an LCD.
If it's a plasma, make sure the DVR/STB is in front and the face pointing the same direction as the TV, so it gets no IR from the front of the screen. Good luck ![]()

I had the same issue with the Uverse remote not responding unless I put it a few inches in from of the box. I have a Samsung LCD TV and in the menus I changed the Energy Saver setting from Auto to Off. Now the remote works perfectly. Thanks for the solution Chris.

You're welcome, the problem is those settings are sending out IR to find the brightness level and kills the Uverse IR remote. ![]()

I'm still having problems with the remote working very good up to about 5:30 pm I even got a new remote from att.
My set does not have any kind of setting adjustment for backlighting or energy savings mode.
any further ideas, my wife wants to return the TV set

I believe the DVR is more prone to this type of problem. Switch the DVR with another STB.
If you think it is the TV, you can try hiding the STB. Place the STB on the wall mount with the IR pointing at the ceiling & bounce the signal off the ceiling. Or, hide it under the cabinet & bounce the IR off the floor. It works best just before it does not work.

Have any CFL lites near the Uverse equipment? Try to make sure the DVR/STB is in front and the face pointing the same direction as the TV, so it gets no IR from the front of the screen.
Something else may be coming on at that time and causing problems. ![]()

none of that helped, the remote, brand new with new batteries remains erratic after 5:30 pm
I've had the dvr straight, at angles, 5 feet from set etc etc...turned off all the lights and reduced lighting the set to where you can barely see it. Still workss great until 5:30 ish and then its erratic.
Myt wife watches some TV , a Vizeo hdtv different model, upstairs, later at night and reports no problems with her set and STB.
we programed our Iphone to be a remote and it works extremely well biut has no volume control.

Does the iphone show a volume control? You should be able to set the STB as the volume controller. Although, I guess the settings to do that are in the remote - sends different IR.
There is a contact for buddytv on this forum & on uverseusers.com. They seem very concerned about customer needs and seem responsive to input.
They should add a volume control for the STB. The TV volume remains fixed & the STB varies.
I have a TV set up this way & it works no different than the TVs with TV volume control.

the iphone works as part of our network and does not use rf there is no way i know to actually let the iphone know that our TV is the Vizeo model ergo can not control volume.
My main concern is trying to figure out why the att remote has problem with this set and only this set and only later in the day.
Very perplexed

I also like to find work arounds when a real solution is not available.
The STB does have a controllable volume & the U-verse remote can be programmed to control the STB volume instead of the TV volume - essentially transparent to the viewer. Therefore the iphone app should have the same functionality as the U-verse remote. This would give a full replacement for watching U-verse TV. It does not give a replacement for watching DVD or internet.
It is the STB volume that varies - the TV volume remains in a single "median" setting.

seems while using the iphone as a remote the incoming calls are routed to the mailbax and that is a problem.
The iphone should be primarily a phone first...the remote should be the remote..
The problem set is controlled by the uverse DVR, can we interchange the DVR with another STD from another less used tv set ?

Yes, you can swap a DVR and STB.
STBs seem less prone to IR interference.
However, it is better to have the DVR connected to the RG via cat5. If not connected cat5 it may still be ok. Just mention it in case there is a problem.

IT WORKS !!!
the switching of the DVR with another less used STD did the trick, almost seems the remote works better than ever ie very light touch aimed almost anywhere and presto the responce is instant.
The DVR is now attached to a TV that we do now watch very often and no big surprise the remote seems to work well on that set
so win win
