It looks like one of the recent firmware updates for my 3800HGV-B broke the ability to set the Ethernet port mode. In the past you could successfully set each of the four Ethernet ports to 10BaseT and 100BaseTX, both Auto and forced full duplex. Now, the dropdown is still there, but applying any change always seems to revert back to Auto-Detect. Unfortunately, my ReadyNAS Duo is a little finicky and I found that forcing the port it is connected to 100BaseTX Full Duplex makes it perform better.
Is anybody else seeing this?

I use Auto-Detect, and as you say, the drop-downs are still there.
Have you tried pulling the plug at the back of the RG? Wait about 10 sec., and plug it back in.

Not experiencing your problem but, if you get a decent Gigabit switch (Netgear GS108), and plug your NAS and computers into the switch and the switch into the 3800, you would greatly improve LAN performance and probably eliminate your NAS issues.

I have pulled the powere in the past (for other reasons) and it did not help this issue. I just tested again and the problem is still occuring. Were you able to actually set it as something other than "Auto" successfully?
My current versions are:
| Hardware Version | 2700-100531-006 |
| Software Version | 6.3.7.50-plus.tm |

I have thought about getting a gigE switch, however, I think my major speed limit is actually my wireless on my laptop, not the wired interfaces.

Then get a decent "N" wireless router with a built-in Gigabit switch and install it behind the 3800. That should solve the NAS and the laptop problem.

It has nothing to do with slow wireless - running at 54Mbps which is more than sufficient. The ReadyNAS has a known slowness problem when using wireless anyhwere in the data chain. Nobody really knows why

You should have read your examples a little more. They mostly point to two seperate issues. First being related to certain wireless client chipsets and/or Vista's "Self-tuning" network model, and second being the ReadyNAS's "Agressive" network model. I really did not see much of anything regarding access points/routers/switches.
Have you attempted the MTU changes on your laptop and the ReadyNAS as suggested in all those examples? It also appears that this problem surfaced as much as four years ago, have there been any firmware updates in that time for your ReadyNAS to address this problem?
Another point that needs to be touched on is the ability of the 3800's wireless. Having a connect speed of 54Mbs does not mean you are getting throughput of 54Mbs. Once you start transferring data, your throughput rate will begin to drop to compensate for errors, the more interference, the more it will drop. Have you run InSSIDer to see if your 3800 is operating in a "crowded" wireless network area? If your fighting a bunch of other wireless "G" (or other 2.4GHz) networks, switching to an "N" 5GHz access point/router would more than likely improve your wireless performance.

Yes, I have read thru most of them and tried many differnt things. MTU has been adjusted all over the place. Vista and Win 7. Two different wireless chipsets (Intel and another one). Somewhere, buried in one of the threads, there was information about forcing 100Mbps as helping, and it did in my case. So losing the capability has reduced my speeds. I have modified the MTU yet again and have regained some speed (up to about 1.5MBps (as in 12Mbps), which is not spectacular, but better than what I was getting before I discoverd the port was no longer forced to 100Mbps Full Duplex.
ReadyNAS is full y up to date, but it is an aging model, so updates will probably be coming more slowly.
I have not run InSSIDer, but it is a good suggestion. I know that I have quite a few neighbors that have wirless routers and a lot of them are on UVerse.
I might try picking up a N router just to see if it makes any improvement (which would bring me to 3 AP's in the house...)

I seem to remember seeing something about setting the port speed and mode but, IIRC, it was changing that setting on the ReadyNAS not the router.
Not sure if your set up for it or not but I would start with getting a decent MIMO 5GHz "N" router/access point with Gigabit switch and put it in DMZ behind the 3800 and connect all your local network to the new router, either wired or wirelessly. Of course any STBs (if you have Uverse TV) or phones (if you have VOIP), should remain connected to the 3800. If you would like instructions on how to do that, let me know.

Yep, it can be set on both side of the interface. I can't remember clearly, but there was a performance increase when both sides were explicitly set to 100Mbps Full Duplex and not allowing either side to auto-negotiate.
Like I said, I'll have to look into getting another Wireless router. However, I can't understand your DMZ comment. DMZ would allow the NAS to be seen from outside the 3800's firewall which I wouldn't want. Unless you mean in the DMZ of the new router... That would make more sense.
The other wireless router that I have is essentially acting as WAP with a switch on it (behind the 3800), so I should be able to accomplish the same thing with a new router as well (turn off NAT, DHCP, etc).
Thanks for the suggestions. Would be easier (and cheaper) if they just put the old functionality back in ![]()

You would put the new router in the DMZ on the 3800 which effectively makes your new router your internet gateway, it's as close as you can get to putting the 3800 into bridge mode. Then all your port forwarding and such is done on your new router. Your ReadyNAS and computers would be connected to (and protected by) the new router.
