My Music - Not allowed to set as ringtone?

I am very frustrated!  I bought the music bundle to download music onto my phone so that I could use it as an MP3 player, but also so I could use my favorite songs as ringtones.  It will not allow me to set MyMusic as a ringtone.  Any ideas why it won't or ways to get around this without purchasing an actual ringtone.  I spent $40 on the music bundle!  Why should I have to buy ringtones too?

You can't set a full length song as a ringtone.  It has to be less than 600kb.
You need to crop it down to a small segment of the song using an editing software.  Search the forum for other threads on this subject that have details on "how-to"

Audacity is Open Source and can be downloaded for free from here. Make sure you get the LAME plugin.

Once you make the song you want less than 600kb, where do you put it on the device so that you can select it as a ringtone?

Re: My Music - Not allowed to set as ringtone?

To use a MP3 as a ringtone, the MP3 must be 600kB or less, 192kbps bitrate or less, and stored in the My Music folder of the phone.  Only the first 20-30sec plays before the phone goes to voicemail.

Also, the addressbook contact must be in phone memory, not stored on the SIM, in order to associate a ringtone.

I think the file name has to have less than 32 characters also.

I think mp3 to ringtone gold can help you , just download it at    www.oursdownload.com

You can save any part of your favorite mp3s to ringtone format.

Re: My Music - Not allowed to set as ringtone?

asatoran...  I'm not sure I agree with 2 of your statements.  I have successfully used MP3's greater than 600KB as ring tones.  The largest one I have is roughly 725KB.  However, I would definitely would not consider using any that were significantly larger.  Since I keep my MP3's under 192kbps, I won't argue with your point on bitrate.

With respect to where the MP3s are stored, in addition to those that come with the phone stored elsehwere, all of mine are in My Documents.  I don't even had a My Music folder.
