Is there an alternative to the Motorola NVG510 modem to be had from AT&T? I had great results with several 2Wire units for DSL over the years. Unfortunately,
I switched to U-verse...
Part of my question has to do with wanting to use a 3rd-party router for wi-fi instead of the NVG510's radio component, and not having this be overly complicated. Any success stories, recommendations or resources for doing this?
I am able at times to get near rated speed of 12Mbps with wi-fi (inconsistent though), but most all browser pages load slow as molasses (improved if Ethernet'd). It's a wi-fi issue having to do with signal pathway quality and how the Motorola processes through its radio, I suspect, not just raw speed.

The only difference would be that the place to turn off the NVG510's built-in wireless will be in a different location in its web interface.
